picked up my s&w 22a

I just got back from the gunshop to bring home my new baby(hate waiting periods). I'm planning on shooting it sometime soon. So far I found what I hate about it:

Having a HARD time racking the slide! Anything I can do to make this eayer?

My wife and I both have one and neither one is difficult to rack the slide. Take it apart and look for the obvious problems, and watch that spring. I haven't shot the one I got a couple months ago yet, but my wife’s is very ammo sensitive, so try a bunch if you don't like the accuracy or reliability you expect. We also had a problem with the red snap caps for dry firing. Several times the too short snap cap on racking of the slide would bounce inside the slide and make disassembly difficult. The cheapest place I've found to buy the buffers is Brownells.
 
I've had mine for a week and the slide is extremely easy to rack; mine has eaten several kinds of ammo without fail (however, it does tend to trap the spent shell in the chamber every 30-40 rounds); I've fired about 500 rounds thru it this week and zeroed the sights; great plinker; almost as much fun as my CZ's!
 
Well you guys might have weaker springs or more likely have stronger hands.

I took this apart last night and simple enough but what a pain to put it back togather. And I almost lost the spring.

From examing it(brought it used)I could be wrong but I think the guy who had it last didn't shoot it very much.

Note, I finelly figured it out, with mag in it easyer to pull the slide since it locks back. I feel like a dunce.

Great purchase. For some reason they don't seem to get much press, but I like 'em much better then Rugers, and they're more affordable then Buckmarks. Enjoy it!
 
Can I get replacement grips for this? I don't like the plastic grip it came with.

The first time I stripped it, I had a heck of a time with the slide, etc.; now I only remove the top portion and clean; every other time I strip it all; it's a great little gun; I put a Target Sports Red Dot on it and spent some time zeroing the sights; they were way off; now it is perfect.
 
whm1974; mine came with a rubberized grip flush with the rest of it (?); no plastic that I can tell; feels very comfortable.

Feels like Pastic to me. Of course this gun is avilable with three diffencte grips.

I just got back from the range. Shot 600 rounds though it. I did have one FTE, and every so often I had some rounds that wouldn't chamber. Well this isn't a bad gun and I'm keeping this one...

On another note on the station next to me a guy was trying to teach his 16 y/o daughter how to shoot. However with people shooting .45's on either side of us probley scared her off since she left. Well her dad said she was imdatied anyway.

Ok I'm trying to field strip this thing and the push buttion on the front won't PUSH!

This is funny but I can rack the slide now...

If the plunger binds a little I just nudge it up or down on one side and all is well. It also helps to add a drop of oil. After you break it down a couple times you won't have a problem. At least it's eaiser than a Mark II to take down and put back together.
 
I've shouldn't have done this but I tap it very carefuly with a hammer and now I can take the gun apart. I'll take your advice and put a drop of oil on it.

what's the best/cheapist place to get parts(springs, little plastic peice, etc) and spare mags?

I checked brownells, but I find thier site hard to use and almost $30 for a mag is too much.

I am thinking of getting the softtouch grips, or some sort of rubber grips anyway. I might bite the dust and buy a couple of mags anyway. Do I have to break them in?

I did shoot 400 rnds of Winchester's standerd and 200 rnds of high vecilty ammo though ysetiday(Both 40 grains). Both function fine, but I may stick with HV ammo.

For the little square white plastic buffer pads, just call S&W. They sent me like 1/2 dozen free whrn I did and complained about the one I had wearing out.
