Well, I've been wanting an M1 Carbine for about as long as I can remember. I've already aquired battle rifles, and AK's/AR's....So, I wanted something different.

I had searched high and low, and had found a few USGI Carbines. Problem was...They were all a bit more expensive than I was looking to buy right now.

Yesterday, I went to my favorite gunshop and found a non-GI carbine for cheap. It's a Plainfield model made sometime between 64-77 and is completely interchangable with USGI parts. In fact...I disassembled the rifle today and found that it is put together with mostly USGI parts. It may not be a military issued weapon, but it's close enough for a shooter.

The weapon seems to function very smoothly and appears to have seen little use.

I picked it up plus 50 rounds of .30 Carbine ammo for a hair over $200.00 out the door.

If anyone can point me to a good source of M1 Carbine info, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great deal!

I bought a bunch of ammo for mine from Georgia Ammo. New stuff, not surplus. Ran fine in mine and the price was good.

Also, a heads up DCM (forum member here) just pm'ed me that he's going to be selling a bunch of M1 mags so you may want to watch for his post. (I have had real smooth dealings with him in the past).

Enjoy your new toy!

Terrific buy at that price but

Proof is in the pudding. Repost after you've shot the thing.

Thanks for the replies fellas. If this rifle shoots as good as I suspect it will....I can see myself falling in love with it. The .30 Carbine may be considered an anemic round, but I sure as hell wouldn't wanna be shot by one! Besides...The gun is just soooo light and handy. More like an oversized pistol than a rifle IMHO.

Also, thanks for the heads up on the mags. I will keep an eye out for those as this carbine didn't come with any spares.

I will post a range report as soon as I can get her out to shoot. I have some days off from work coming up and think range day is gonna happen.

OMG, $200?

I would fall all over myself running to the bank if I could find a deal like that here. $400 is usually a bare minimum for ANY M1 carbine. Thief!

Yeah. I couldn't pass on the carbine considering the price. They had a couple others that were a bit steep in price for me at the moment. One was an Auto Ordinance clone @ $550.00 and the other was an original USGI with all documentation paperwork and matched parts in very good condition for $995.00.

When I saw the price on this one I nearly pulled the back pocket off of my jeans reaching for my wallet.

The dealer told me something funny after I bought it. He said that a guy had been in about fifteen minutes before me and was looking at the rifle. The guy wanted it but didn't have the 200 bucks on him. The dealer offered to hold it with a cash deposit, and the guy declined, saying he'd be back later in the day with the money to buy it.

Oh well. I feel like I got a great deal on a decent carbine.

You've got a lot of people really jealous

What a great find at that price!

I'm not sure exactly what Karma is, but for me the M1 Carbine has it. I absolutely love the gun. Everybody whines about stopping power and all that crap, but let's see, we're not fighting the Chinese in Korea are we?

It's a fun gun, easy to shoot and accurate as you want it to be.

Congratulations:D

that's a steal of a deal, and it's a beautiful specimen to boot. congratulations, i'm drooling with jealousy.

i'm kind of amused that people talk so down on the M1 Carbine as firing a pistol round, but pistol-caliber carbines are selling better than ever.

Great buy! The Planfield guns are considered to be the best of the clones. As you noticed, the parts interchange 100% with USGI and most parts ARE USGI. $200 is a steal. $350 would still have been a good price.

In my opinion, you got a better gun, for less money, than the new Kahr guns they were selling.

That was the original ball ammo. It's pretty darned effective with expanding hollowpoint.

And I'm jealous of that deal, alright!

Thanks for all the positive responses folks. It's not very often that I run across what I would consider a good deal in a shop, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I think I'll end up picking up some more ammo, and hit th range this weekend to see how she shoots.

Only problem is....I now have an itch for a USGI carbine even more than ever. I wonder if the wife would notice....LOL!
