Weatherby Vanguard SUB-MOA 30-06 Spfd is the new rifle that I think I am going to buy. Any one have experience with these rifles. It comes with a sub-moa guarentee. I would like to know anyones opinion or experience with this rifle. I am going to mount a Leupold Vx3 scope on the rifle and I will primarily use it for mid west white tails and some limited target shooting.

From what I see the Weatherby Mark V synthetic 30.06 rifle is about $900 and will shoot 1.5 inch groups but has the mark V action its the base model mark V.

The Weatherby Vanguard Sub-Moa 30.06 is about $750 and is a sub-moa rifle with test fired target included its a beefed up vanguard.

I am only intersted in synthetic stocks no wood for me.

Which would you choose and why?????

Why pay 750 for a Vanguard when you can get the same gun in Howa M-1500 form with a better stock, for 550?
I have a Howa .308 that's sub MOA that came with a scope, and base, and all that jazz for 550 out the door.
I would look into those if I were you, available in .30-06 too.

Yeah, there are a lot of Vangaurds out there that will shoot sub-moa that aren't technically "sub-moa" models. Mine had a target in the box that was one ragged hole. And I paid $390 for it at Wally World.

I heard the Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA guns come with a Bell and Carlson stock and are worth the bump in price. Are they??

i have the sub-moa in 30/06 and the B&C stock has the pillar bedding and the engraved floor plate. Mine had a barely sub-moa test target (they use 150gr federal soft points for their proving rounds per the weatherby CS lady i spoke with). I was a little miffed at the test target, but my first time to the range I was putting all 3 shots touching at 100 meters from a caldwell leadsled.... this gun is just great at shooting the cheap ammo very accurately. at 200 and 300 meters the groups open up a bit, but are very very accurate still.

is it worth only a couple hundred less than a mark V ? NO... if you can get it at the 700 or 650 price point ( i paid $645 at buds 2 years ago for mine) then buy it. otherwise save up a few more bucks and get a Mark V (i have 7 mark V's and love them).

UF: So you would choose Weatherby Mark V synthetic rifle over the Weatherby Vanguard Sub -MOA rifle in 30.06???

Does any one know if the stock that comes on the Mark V synthetic rifle is a cheap plastic one?

all mark V's are top notch and the synthetic ones start as a B&C medalist or better depending on the model of mark V. right now sportsmans warehouse and a few other shops have the vanguards on clearance (they will be phasing in a new version of the vanguard later this year) for the low 300's.... If i were you i would ask to see the factory test targets for the rifles and pick the one with the best looking test target. that would save you a ton over a sub-moa.

also, on the weatherby rifles. they test all of them in a solid jig without a stock. so the rifle might shoot differently with a stock installed. I have had the luck of having rifles for weatherby and howa that shoot as well or better with their stocks on (all tested from a leadsled)... on a vanguard compact I have (i actually have this for sale as well, just look thru my old threads) in 308 winchester it really loves the compact B&C stock (just have a bit of bedding compound in the recoil lug area) , but is not too keen with the factory full sized stock (still have not bedded it)... of course even with the full size stock it shoots sub moa groups , but not as tight as with the shorter stock (guessing it has something to do with harmonics or vibrations with the different sized stocks.

The sub-MOA Vanguard is a Vanguard, plain and simple. It isn't beefed-up in any way. Used to be a day when one could pay Weatherby an additional $25.00 to get select wood, or a select target. I think Weatherby saw potential $$$ here. I suspect that the powers-that-be thought, "Why select targets at request for $25.00, when we can separate them out, and call them sub-MOAs and charge an additional $200.00?! IMHO, all Weatherby rifles should carry a sub-MOA guarantee. In the contemporary market, that is about the norm.

I can't see the sense in buying a Sub MOA for the extra cost, when you can just review the targets and get the same. My Vanguard synthetic in .270 Win came with a 5/8" target. It shoots about the same. My Vanguard Varmint Special came with about a 1/4" target, and it shoots about the same.

However, as I have been given to understand, Weatherby no longer sends the targets in the box. In not doing so, they are quickly losing my admiration. Me being a 28-year Weatherby supporter/customer of many, many rifles, that is a powerful reflection.

Uni.frost,

My mkv synthetic came with the crappy tupperware stock. Not all of them have good stocks, or at least when I bought mine they didnt.

It's my understanding that all new Vanguards (the S2-due out this spring) will have sub-MOA guarantees, along with a newly designed stock and a two-stage trigger.

This is true. My new Vanguard did not have a factory target validating its 1.5" group pledge. It did come with a written guarantee promising same. Not the same in my judgement.

That's not really a deal at Bass Pro Shop. The S2 has a MSRP of $450.00 for the base model. The street price will surely be lower.

1990 Vanguard Deluxe

Alot of Weatherby owners, anybody familiar with the 84-94 Vanguard Deluxe. The one that looks just like the Mark V. Beautiful Stock and all. Obvious it there are differences, bolt lift, 9 lug bolt and among other things.

What is your experience in the value in this firearm in 100% condition? Kept in case for almost 20 years. Oh yeah, .300 weatherby Mag.

Shoots under 1" and is absolutly beautiful. Has 3x9x50 new Bushnell Elite 3200.

I have a Sub-MOA 300 WSM that's my hunting rifle. It shoots under an inch with a few different handloads.

I had a Sub-MOA 270 WSM. I never got it to shoot anything under an inch.

I think that they're like any other good rifle in that regard, some are great & some are average. I prefer it for the better stock & recoil pad if nothing else. :)

Everyone compares the Vanguard to the Howa 1500. I've put them side by side on the counter at the gun store. Yes they are similar, but no they are not identical. There are some details in the action & bolt that lead me to prefer the Vanguard.
