Guys...some of you maybe interested on looking ay my 308 M1.
It has been fully accurized.
Barrel is not the heavy match barrel though..but a douglas preium.
A man in my area rebuilt it...but it took two YEARS to get it back! A long two years at that!
This is before I heard of Roland Beaver.
This M1 will shoot inch groups at 100yds if you do your part.

Two years!!? I'm as impressed with your patience as I am with your rifle. (Nice rifle, by the way.)

That wood is spectacular. Is it original? What's the story on .308 M1's? Were they ever issue? Or just custom conversions? Nice rifle!

Two longggg years!
Yep. I wanted the rifle done that bad.
Won't let him work on my Kid's BB Gun now :fire:
He told me it would take him 6 months at first !!

I bought the M1 off a friend who got it through the DCM(?) CMP now.

It was in 30-06 and he put on a true-oil finish before I bought it.

After I got the gun..I wanted to get it fixed up.My friend got me a different stock through some sort of magazine(can't remember)

Well I refinished the stock and it matched the handguards very well...everything came out pretty good.

Then sent it off to the 'smith.

Some one here with more knowledge than I can help you more..Sulaco. I believe they were not issued in 308.
Thought I read somewhere a time ago that the Navy experimented with the M1's in another Calib during the 1950's.

Here I go on Mr Beaver again :D he can furnish custom barrels in calib based in the .308..30-06..22-250..243..6mm..260..7mm-08..25-06..270 ect.

Thanks, dood...they have an ugly step-sister at home as well - but we're gonna get her some plastic surgery real soon...

Loved seeing your M1 - you have to be proud of her.

BTW - I shoot MilSurp in the walnut Garand, but the maple one has a Barnett barrel and I have had great groups with Federal American Eagle 150 grain loads. You may want to give them a shot...

Yup, maple - with NM sights and op rod, Barnett barrel and black moly coat.

Helluva shooter...

Sorry pdh - didn't mean to steal the thread - just wanted to share...

Oh man..stealing thread?
No problem. Didn't even think of it.
Enjoyed viewing your M1's. They are nice! :)

Yeah varoadking...I'll give the Federals a try sometime...thanks.

All that I have shot in my Garand are reloads using IMR4895 with the Sierra 168gr Match.

If I'm not mistaken, Dean's and WTO both use Wenig stocks like you see in my pic's.

The Bastogne walnut stocks I've seen are very nice - don't have one of those yet...

You can buy the entire rifle with a new barrel and stock from WTO for just $30.00 more than what Dean's charges just to refurbish one after you consider the .308 bullet block...
