Here is a picture of the M44 & Yugo SKS that I picked up yesterday at the show. As I mentioned in my other post the Mosin Nagant M44 has all matching numbers (on bolt, floorplate, receiver, & buttstock & a laminated stock & the older type bayonet lug (without the 2nd ear). Dated 1944 with triangle/arrow arsenal mark. Paid $110. The Yugo still has a significant amount of Cosmoline in the stock, so I think it will look a little nicer after some additional cleaning. Overall it seems to be in pretty decent shape. The numbers seem to match on the receiver, bolt, & stock. The number on the trigger guard is stenciled instead of stamped & the number at the top rear of the receiver cover is a different number than anywhere else. It is an E serial number and the grenade launcher has the holes at the tip. The bore is bright with nice rifling, looks like it’s never been fired. Paid $110 for this one also.

That's the combo I want, but $49.95 for the M44 from Aztec guns, and $99 for the Yugo from J&G Sales in Prescott....

I just purchased a Model 44 at a gunshow yesterday, I paid $65 for mine and it's dated 1954. I don't know much about them at all, just that they looked well made and seemed like a good deal for the money. Can anyone tell me some history about them. Also, where is a good place to pick up some of the 7.62 x 54R ammo, I bought a few boxes at the show, but the dealer was pretty much sold out by the time I found him.
Congrats on the purchase. I've been doing a lot of surfing on the Mosin Nagant Forum, the Russian Mosin Nagant Page & Forums, & 7.62x54r.net. All very informative. 7.62x54r.net in particular was very helpful for me as a Mosin Newbie. Lots of pictures.
I forgot, the surplus ammo is very cheap. Seems to be available at the gun shows, in shotgun news, etc. I picked up some new Wolf ammo because I didn't want to deal with the corrosive surplus ammo. Wolf was $5.95 a box. Seemed reasonable to me. I think you can also get this pretty cheap from Cheaper Than Dirt. I would think some of the large sporting goods stores like Dunams/Dicks would carry the stuff, but I haven't checked yet.

I just picked up a 91/30 dated 1931 at the local Big 5 Sporting Goods store and it has all matching numbers. The wood is in excellent condition and the bolt is tight and the trigger is suprisingly smooth. The triangle/arrow mark is from the Izhevsk Arsenal for rifles and carbines made after 1928.
From what I have read on the M-N Forum, the M44 kicks like a mule and sounds like a bomb when it goes off. Lots of muzzle flash too. Might want to get a sholder pad and extra ear protection.
I found some 7.62x54R ammo at a guns how this weekend so I headed for the range this week to see how accurate the rifle is. Guess 5" groups at 200 yards is pretty common. I also saw some Wolf non-corrosive, non-reloadable 148gr FMJ for $4.00 box/20 at the show but I wanted to try some surplus stuff to see just what a Russian soldier got to experience. This stuff is 205gr, probably corrosive and it may be MG ammo but no marks on the rounds and it's FMJ. I'll just toss a botle of Windex in the cleaning box.
