11 1/2 months after they were stolen the police finally decided I could have them back. In November of 2006 I had Many guns stolen from my secure hiding places in my closet:eek: 4 of the handguns were used in a driveby shooting the same night in which they were stolen. The police did an excellent job in catching the bad guys that night and was able to get everything we had stolen back except a few pieces of jewery that are long gone and the 4 handguns. They had to keep the handguns for evidence in the trials that followed. I kept in contact with the PD every other month to make sure I would get my property back. They were very understanding of my constant calling.

Well about a week ago I heard through the grapevine that the ring leader was already out of Jail. I Immediately called the PD and demanded my pistols. I explained that it was sad that a Felon who commited another felony spent less time in jail than my guns. Anyway the story ends well, I have my pistols back and It was like getting them new all over again.:)

What condition are they in?? Were they taken care of by the Poilice or were they stored in a bucket of salt water like the NO police did to the guns they stole from the citizans of that City? Oh and congrats on getting them back.

Yes, I bought a Safe/RSC two days after I was robbed. You can't afford to not have a Gun Safe/RSC no matter what you think.. I learned the hard way. No matter how good you think you have it hid someone else has already thought to look there.

They were in great condition, they had just a little bit of fingerprint dust on them but not much. They were in vaccum sealed bag and in a cardboard box. I was scared to death that they were going to be a pile of rust but to my pleasant suprise they were not.

That's not possible because everyone knows that criminals buy their guns at gun stores where it is so easy to get one.

Glad to hear of your good fortune. Atleast you weren't charged with anything stupid. A neighbor wasn't as fortunate. A kid broke into his house, found his shotgun and ammo he had for home defense. The kid made it into his backyard loaded the gun and blew half his foot off.
From what my neighbor told me he was in his back room with a 30-30 when he heard the gun goin off in back. The cops showed up 15-30 mins later and found the boy and the shotgun.
My neighbor has been charged with several different things as well as having the shotgun taken for evidence. I'm no lawyer but sounds like karma to me.

I had a similar thing happened when my car got stolen. They found the car within a week, but apparently, drugs were involved somehow and the car was impounded for evidence (that was one of those good news/bad news phone calls). It was 6 months before I could get it and then I had to make multiple trips and go through a whole hassle of red tape at that.

I'm surprised that you were able to get them back.

If you filed with your Homeowners Insurance carrier and rec'd pmt, technically they'd be the property of your ins carrier.

Good show for you.

salty.

The Police recovered everything the next day after it was stolen so I didn't claim them on Homeowners. They are still mine.

Yeah, isn't it, though. :(

And he spent a heckuva lot less time in jail than his victim did in the ground! :cuss::cuss::cuss:

Seriously, glad you got them back in good shape, and that you're storing them responsibly.

Did you see the conditions of those guns in the barrels?????? Completely rusted shut and TOTALLY USELESS. They were obviously abused and exposed to salt water or something.... Come on, there's a guy on the net whose Glock, that he has been trying to destroy, looks way better than even the best of those guns.

Glad they were treated well and the Police of your jurisdiction have some resepct for the people they serve. One of those things I really like about the area I live in also. Most LOE's around here grew up here and respect the community.

"my secure hiding places in my closet"

There is no such thing. When my house was burglarized by a gang of teenaged hoodlums in 1987 every drawer was dumped on the floor, every item from every closet was on the floor, every single item I owned was touched by these scumbags. They either took it with them (including 23 guns of which 4 have been recovered to date) or left it on the floor. If it was in the house, they found it.

I think I have to agree with jlpskydive on this one, as for one thing, ALL of Nawlins was one big bucket of salt water, and nobody took any time whatsoever to clean anything confiscated. The report of firearms deliberately destroyed is also VERY unsettling.
Hypnogator, the really bad thing is, if this ringleader was indeed a felon BEFORE he stole the guns, then he deserves 5 years Federal time for each firearm, AND each round of ammunition illegally posessed. Gun control only works on the law abiding.

I think a good chunk of the city looked like that, not just the guns, but still it was an abuse of power so no need to exaggerate what actually occurred.
