so... black nose... old black talon. been gone 10 years right? anything replace the black talon? available now?

what about the black jacketed rounds?
the silver nosed rounds in first pic?

First pic: Some sort of Taurus Hex bullet?
Middle two: Win Black Talon of the old days. The SXT or Ranger are comparable.
Last pic: Hornady TAP

Yes, There is. If I recall correctly it Winchester Ranger SXT or something to that effect. It's the same thing, but they dropped the Black Talon name and color for marketing and liability purposes.

I know a place that sells it, but it's on my other computer at work. I'll look it up on Monday for you.

First pic is the late great Aguila IQ round.

Not familiar enough with the other three, look like Winchesters of sorts.

thanks guys....

as far as the...Aguila IQ round.... someone mentioned elsewhere, that it could be the winchester silvertip. dunno?? any way to tell?

Well, the way I see it is like this:

1) Silvertips for handgun cartridges come in two flavours: those with grooved jackets and those without.
2) I have never seen a Silvertip that had a grooved jacket, where the grooves didn't go all the way to the rim of the hollow point.
3) The rounds in your picture have grooves that don't go all the way to the rim.

And that's why I reckon the rounds in the first picture cannot be Silvertips. They also look a little lacklustre to me, which indicates they don't have the required jacketing.

Odd Job,

IQ rounds were made out of a fangled aluminum alloy (no jacket). Hence the retarded high velocities, I thought they were pretty cool, Aguila had a lot of pressure from police to stop importing them. I don't know if that is the real reason they stopped selling them in the US. They were never that popular.

Viking- I'm 100% that no other bullet produced will look like that.

The first ones are definitely Aguila IQs, swaged zinc hollowpoints that have a very fast muzzle velocity and break into 3 or 4 large pieces on impact.
The second ones are Winchester SXTs or Black Talons.
Ditto for the ones with the 10mm Commander (?; proportions look a little too long to be 45 Auto) in the 3rd picture.
The last ones (with the H&K) appear to be Wolf (Russian) JHPs, since I don't know of any US companies that load lacquered or steel cases.

1.) No idea... interesting looking rounds though.

2 & 3.) Black Talons I'm guessing, since that's the only round I'm familiar with that uses a black coating on the bullet.

4.) Hornady TAP... I just came back from testing my new 1911, and shot several boxes worth.. I really like the TAP ammo and have had some on hand for one gun or another for a while.
