Please, need help reassembling my Garand

Got it all the way back together, after hours of trial and error (instructions just said follow reverse order, which is practically no help at all), except for getting the trigger assembly back into the gun. Instructions simply say reassemble in reverse order, but I haven't the foggiest notion how to get that back in there. There must be some specific method. Just jamming it in isn't working. And since it came out with a quick snap when I followed the disassembly instructions, this tells me nothing about how to get it back in. Help.

No, don't "jam" it in...Here is what Hatcher says: "Unlatch and open the trigger guard; keeping the bass of the trigger housing level, move it straight down into the receiver, seeing that the locking lugs on the trigger guard enter their recesses in the receiver. Close and latch the trigger guard. "

From "The Book Of The Garand" by Hatcher, first published in 1948--and still a great book on the M1 rifle.

Make sure the bolt is forward and that the hammer is cocked before you insert the trigger group.
