According to FBI statistics, there were almost 30,000 violent crimes committed in the state in 2001. Those are murders, rapes, aggravated assaults and strong-arm robberies.

It would be nice to live in a world where there were no bad guys, but clearly we don't.

So please don't advocate further disarmament of victims.

Guns are "too available?" Maybe. But you've got to admit, that ship has already sailed. They can't be uninvented, and no one is going to round up the 200 million already in private hands in this country.

Instead, let's work on punishing people when they do something wrong, not jeopardizing those who are entirely law-abiding.
