For those of us who live in states with horrible gun laws, we need to require FA ID cards to purchase guns. This can take sometimes up to 6 months. I live in NJ and recently handed in all the paper work. I was wondering how long it took many of you to obtain yours?

my ma fid took about 2 months to come in and my moms ltc took about one and a half months

I'm one of the lucky ones. I got my Class A LTC in 6 days from the time I dropped off my application. My buddy (who lives one town over) had to wait 89 days.

First time I applied for my Illinois Foid card, it only took a couple of weeks, IIRC, heck it was back in 1983. However, last year when I sent in my renewal the day after it arrived in the mail, it took 97 days (during which mine expired, so no shooting for two weeks !!) to get my renewal. Fortunately it was mid summer. I heard of some people who were unable to hunt (particularly during deer season), because their FOID's had expired and hd not received their renewal cards, even though they had sent them in well in advance.

Here in the People's Democratic Republic of Blago (aka Illinois) a Firearm Owners ID card (FOID) is good for five years, costs $5, even though our Glorious Leader Gov. Unpronouncable wanted to raise it to $125 PER YEAR, until he found out from the downstate Democrats that he would get exactly ZERO votes from anywhere outside of C(r)ook County, if he really tried to push that while out campaigning for election.

NJ seems to average somewhere between 2-4 months for FIDS, though there are plenty of cases where it takes longer.

Mine took 10 months. :fire: I've heard of rare cases where it goes a year, 18 months, but only one of each.

FIDS are good for life or your first felony conviction, whichever comes first. You must also update the address if you move within the state, which has the effect of putting the local police on notice that you are armed.

It took me three months to get my IL FOID. A couple of friends of mine only took two and three weeks for thier to come thier.

Scout: your daughter was able to get one at age 11? I thought you have to be 18.

No, she doesn't, but her parents do have grant permission for her to get a FOID card.
