So my 5 year old daughter popped the question: "Daddy, will you take me gunning?" Brought a tear to my eye!:D

So I took her to the range yesterday (Elm Fork here in Dallas). She did great!

Thanks to all the folks who posted tips on taking kids shooting for the first time.

I feel you DataMonkey....Nothing will ever compare to that feeling.
My daughter was 10 when she got her first gun.Wish i could have
introduced her at a younger age.

Congrats on her first outing of what i hope to be a life long passion.

girls love pink guns! i hope firearms companies get the clue and start making more models with the female shooter in mind. im sure your daughter loves that rifle. great choice.

shoot, even my girlfriends first firearm was a charter arms pink lady. she loves it even though it is hard to shoot accurately and it kicks more than any other 38 ive shot haha.

its gotta look good...

I read the title and briefly thought someone was getting married, LOL. I read further and discovered what you meant. I think that is great. I feel the earlier you can introduce and properly educate someone on firearms, the better. It will increase how much we know about how they operate and how to safely handle them.

Nice pink gun, and best of luck!

Nice, we really do need to put imporatance back on raising the next generation of shooters. Fairly soon they'll be able to vote!

Those that haven't shot before (and there are millions) get tricked up into thinking stricter gun control is needed when the media/dems put the spin out.

Again, props!

Heck yeah we kept the target! I think I've got a few more years of out shooting her. But when that stock fits her properly, I'm probably going to get beat.

Datamonkey, Thanks for sharing that. I love hearing when small children want to particpate in the shooting sports. Looks like you'll have a shooting partner for many years to come. Congrats.

My 8 year old Daughter got the use of the family Marlin 101 (4 generations of shooters in the family have started with this rifle) Her 2 younger sisters have a few years before they get anywhere near them.

Next she gets the ar-7 explorer to introduce her to semi-automatics. Fun little rifle, Super light, able to Simply break it down and store in the stock,(maintenance lessons!), and the fact that it floats make it perfect for smaller hands and dropped guns in streams. I used to pick pinecones off the tops of trees... before my Dad taught me about trajectories.

The .38 is usually the next step once safety and maintenance learned. The family model 10 is a "bit" loose now after surviving for 70 years, and the cylinder gap is starting to let shrapnel out the sides. I think it's earned it's retirement.

I'll probably have to pick up a good .38/357 for her next step before letting her into the 9mm/.40/.45 colts.

I've yet to find a kid, who hated shooting a jug of water with a Hollowpoint.

AWESOME!!! You are right. There's nothing quiet like that feeling when they ask you if they can go shooting. My daughter asked the other day "When school lets out for the summer, can we shoot more?" My response of course, "Absolutely."

I love the chipmunk cheeks with the muffs.

I don't have any munchkins of my own yet, but I have a young nephew, and I can't wait to buy him his first bb gun, then 22, then shotgun (his dad is alright with the idea, but he himself isn't the outdoors type). :D

That's great! I remember taking my son out shooting for the first time, but it was even more thrilling when a few years ago, my daughter wanted to know when it was going to be her turn! I got her started with .22's and pretty soon she wanted to know when she was going to get her own gun. And of course, she had to pick it out for herself. Thankfully (at least to me), she really didn't care for anything "pink" and that she liked the Beretta NEOS the best (even better for me as it was on sale at the time).

Enjoy the time you share with your daughter because they grow up so fast, and you will wonder some day where the time went.

My 3 year old daughter loves going to look at the guns at the Local Cabela's Gun Library and then shooting at their light gun range.
She is ready to go out on a scouting trip for yotes.

DM, You lucky father. Congratulations.

Gotta love that pink rifle and shades.

I recall the day mine wanted to try shooting, as well as the day she wanted sky dive, and then fly.

Luckily someone else finally took responsibility for her and her hobbies.

Enjoy your little angel as long as you can - they do grow up fast.

ArkansasPaul, Same goes with you and your beautiful girl.

Good luck to you you both and stay safe.

P.S. I did enjoy taking all my sons to shoot as well, but daughters are definitely different.
