ok, this kind of got me wondering if something like this setup would work for at least attempting to comfortably carrying a walker. yeah i know its some goofy pirate stuff but it just made me think about it :neener: it looks like it might be easier for a slimmer fella like myself to try to use for a large smokewheel
thoughts gentlemen of the board?

Get the proper holster the cylinder is rather large on a walker. the barell might fit and thats it. check out the walker club member bigbadgun could make one for you at a very good price he made mine and several other members

just tighten your belt and wedge the barrel into your butt crack.

There was a member on here that had a holster that was a simple, thick leather loop.

When the gun weighs as much as a newborn baby, holster options get pretty interesting.

I recently bought a new Uberti Walker. Haven't fired it yet, but I sure wouldn't want to wear that pig around! That's one BIG pistol. I bought a flap holster for it, but it's as long as my forearm. The shoulder strap looks like a good idea though, with the right holster.

Seems like I read somewhere that the soldiers/Rangers that carried those monsters back in the days sometimes used holsters mounted on their saddles?

a heavy revolver will give you a sore shoulder if it is worn in a hunting scenario. I have a bandoleer set up that I bought for a TC contender. I use it for a S&W 686 DC with an 8, 3/8 barrel with heavy lug. I just received a holster for my Walker today I will try to get some pics of it up soon. I bought it because it was cheap, well made and provides the ability to wear it two ways. It is designed as a severe angle cross draw. It rides almost level. Or it can be worn as a strong side with a tilt forward. The guy only makes em undyed. But they are heavy leather and well made. My dye job leaves a little to be desired but it looks old and worn and I like it.

he does make a standard right hand strong side holster as well.

Indy, what's your guy charge and does he ship? My recently acquired Walker needs a carry holster, my only gun without a holster, it has to go to the range and woods in a pistol rug, in a backpack.

Walker holsters are kind of legendary.

Yes, the Walker originally was known as a horse pistol; it was intended for carry in a holster attached to the saddle.

A Walker will eat a regular holster and belt alive. They won't be worth a plugged nickle after the first few hours. If you really want and intend to carry a four pound pistol on your person (which brings into question your sanity) you need to be prepared to spend upwards of $200 to $250 for a very thick, strong horsehide (NOT cowhide) leather custom made rig. Go cheap and you'll have a floppy piece of out of shape leather in short order.

Carry one around for eight hours and you won't do it again for along time.

If I was going to be wearing that big iron on my hip I'd also have to be wearing a badge that read "Arizona Ranger".

here are some pics of my holster. I added the german silver Texas star. I did the dye work as well. I kinda like the old look it ended up with.

I have an Uncle Mike's that i used for a 9.5 in Ruger single six that fits the Walker very nicely.

a pic that shows the back of both holsters, notice the large area that allows up to a 2.5 in belt for the cross draw carry. Strong side carry simply is done like most standard slim jim style holsters.

Walker Comfort

Tom E Gun

I would think the most comfortable way to carry a Walker would be to have someone else cary it for you.

now thats funny :p thanks for the input guys. one of these days im gonna take the time to scour thru the walker club pages to find some more wisdom, and i really wanna find the post about the guy that made the frog style holster for his walker, that was pretty neat.

tom e gun, that was my pic of the frog. I made it out of used stirrup leather, it doesn't get much thicker than that. Send me a PM if you want more info.

USAF Vet nah, that flour sack is too classy for me :p
sltm1, thanks for the post! you were exactly the one i was looking for :) i don't know a thing about leather working but i have a friend from high school that does seamstressing (has a degree and everything) and also does some leather work i believe and i am considering asking her for assistance on something like this.

It wasn't a Walker, but I know of a case where an old-time Texas Ranger Capt. attached a wide pair of suspenders to his cartridge loaded gunbelt and holstered six-shooter...
