The OP said round ball ammo which I took as FMJ, that's why I answered as I did. Are you guys sure he meant LRN bullets? "Back in the day" .45 Auto FMJ ammo was called "Ball Ammo."
FMJ still means "ball ammo" to me.

I've been loading .45 for about 25 years. Longer than some, not as long as others. For me, there are only two powder for .45 ACP. 231/HP38 and Accurate No. 2.
TonyAngel,
While I agree W231/HP-38 and AA#2 are outstanding choices for the .45 Auto I suggest giving AA#5 a try some time. It was specifically designed for use in the .45 Auto and while I mostly use W231, AA#5 does a good job too, especially with FMJ bullets.

How does AutoComp compare to PowerPistol as far as how clean it burns? PP has been very clean for me. I've never loaded AC.

I haven't personally used AutoComp yet but from everything I've read it's a winner. It's very clean and very low flash unlike the excessive flash produced by Power Pistol.

I also like WST, 231, AA#5,Unique but lately 6.6grs. of Auto Comp with a 230 fmj Montana Gold bullet has been out shooting them all. One one very cold windy day, it was much better than my old stand-by load of 231. Very uniform.
