Precision Reflex/Red Dot

I know it's a bit of an oxymoron, but bear with me.

I've decided to go with an AR-10. It will be used for small game hunting, sport shooting, and maybe as a battle rifle if SHTF.

This grade of rifle does deserve a nice optic, but I don't really want a highly magnified optic. I've opted to go for something like a Trijicon, Aimpoint, EOTech, etc. Though I have 1 question on them..

Say you have a rifle which will shoot 1.5 MOA, and you put a scope on it which has a 2MOA dot/reticle. Will this hamper your accuracy by adding 0.5MOA, or can you still shoot ~1.5MOA of you're good with the rifle and you have a sharp eye?

Another thing that put me off is that one of the Aimpoint Reflex sights I looked at was the increment it adjusted in. 1MOA clicks are the smallest increment one can adjust to with that particular sight. Not sure if they are all like that, but I would like to clarify it.

I'd go with a 2.5x ACOG. The magnification would help you use the .308 to its full potential. The 2MOA dot wouldn't really be an issue if you had no magnification, since a red dot isn't really a precision optic, its meant for increased speed without detracting from accuracy over irons.

hmm..ACOGS are a bit out of my price range, regrettably.

EOTechs have a 1MOA dot. What about one of those with an external magnifying unit I can slap on if I really require one?

I think you can also do that with an aimpoint, and aimpoints have a considerably longer battery life.

hmmm..True..But which of these reflex/dot sights will do the rifle's accuracy more justice?

An aimpoint or eotech with a magnifier is going to run you about $700 at the least. Also you might want to look into the Trijicon TR21 accupoint scopes. Good optics are not cheap.

An AR-10 for small game hunting? Centerfire rifles are often prohibited during small game seasons.

Aren't those just an EOTech with a slightly weaker chassis?

Yes. The Eotech is the same thing but with more battery options and a 1/8th" thick steel hood.

Hmm..

This one is 1/4 MOA. But this is starting to get into the realm of cheapo optics..

I think I've narrowed it down to an EOTech 512 or Aimpoint CompM3 2moa version. I'll probably old out until I can find a smoking deal on one.
