I've never been much for the AK's and their variants but figure everyone ought to have a 7.62X39. How does a new in the box MAK 90 from a private party for $300 sound? Are these accurate enough to be more than a plinker?
Thanks Melvin

I have two Norinco MAK-90s (a 1993 and a 1994). My 1993 has the milled receiver and the 1994 has the stamped. I bought mine brand new in '93 and '94 for $199, each. At the last two gun shows, I've seen them in the $350-$400 range. From what I've read recently, the Norinco brand is "better" than the others, mainly because the stamped recievers are 1.5mm thick steel compared to most others only using 1.0mm steel. Also, the milled reciever Norincos are supposed to have the better trigger of any of them from 1990-94. If you do a search of the one you are looking at, you may find more about that specific model. I did a Yahoo! search of "'Norinco' and 'MAK-90'" to get the data I just repeated.

As for accuracy, I always do, at least, 20-rounds at a time (never tried a 3 or 5 round group), and I have never missed an 8.5"x11" sheet of paper at 50 yards and have about a 95% hit on a sheet of paper at 100 yards with iron sights. This is sitting at a table and shooting with elbows on the table. I have no idea of what size groups are available with a bench rest. For sub-100 yards, you can have fun with them all day long, especially with ammo prices in the $80-$95 per 1000 for imports such as Wolf, Silver Bear, and others. I'm sure you can have lots of fun at further distances, too, but I haven't had the opportunity to test it at anything over 110-120 yards.
