I'm looking at picking up an AR-15 and was offered this:

"It's an A3 flattop, 16" heavy barrel, with a Hogue rubber grip, A2 Standard Trapdoor Buttstock and a Bushmaster flashider installed. Less then 1,000 rounds."

I've gone through the for sale forum here and on ar15.com but am still having a hard time figuring out what a fair price would be for this sort of setup.

thanks,

For what it's worth, a NEW M4 style A3 Bushmaster (no heavy barrel or Hogue grip as your described gun has, but does have adjustable stock that yours does not), goes for about $850 to $900, when you can find them. There is a thread on AR15.com on the price of a new M4A3, and some folks point to lower prices posted online, but the rifles are often not really available at the posted price.

I shopped for a Bushmaster A3 for a long time before I ran across one and bought it yesterday for $900. Not a great price, but it was a bird in the hand. A2's are everywhere, but the A3 is more difficult to find around here.

I would think that with only 1,000 rounds through it, the price would not be more than about $100 under new. But I just bought my first AR yesterday, so what do I know (other than how hard it is to fins the precise model you want).

Maybe you could call Bushie and ask what a new rifle would cost with at setup.

Considering you can get one of these rifles NIB for $800, I wouldn't pay more than about $650. This is also a less desirable model, IMHO - if you're going HBAR, why get a 16"?

Note that he doesn't show you the "brass hump" or the part of the lower where the ejection port cover hits. Both of these are decent indicators of wear (though they can be retouched).

My personal AR has at least 2000 rounds through it and it doesn't look as worn as that AR.

He said it was about 3 years old. Here is a pic of the flash suppressor:

So I should pay about $650 for this?
