Always wanted one of these - just seems like about the perfect packing revolver.

I figure I'll look around in various locales - what would be a fair price for one in good condition now adays?

In the Houston\Galveston area I would expect to pay in the $250 to $300 range for a blue four or six incher. A two and a half inch snubbie will be a little more. Add $25 for nickle.

good luck

Model 19 Price?

$ 250 - $ 300, huh? Hmm - thats so much within immediate reach that I can almost hear my cc go click in the very near future

I would say that if you can get one in that range, don't walk - run. I've seen more ordinary model 10's priced as high as $250.00.

I gave a bit over $400 for a 1977 NIB Model 19 6" TT/TH/TS in Houston last year. I see them used in various conditions from $300 - $400 at the shows in Austin, usually with barrels under 4". I've seen shooters under $300, but it's rare.

I paid $300 for this model 19-4 a few years ago.

From the asking prices I've seen lately, it appears prices have moved to the $350 --> $400 range.

A couple years ago the prices on 19's were still reasonable, nowadays the sellers think they're made of gold if they're in halfways decent shape.

Yeah, it bothers me that a lot of the older Smiths have gone up in price (NO LOCK, pre-mim, firing pin on hammer, etc.) They use to be a lot more reasonable, but even nice model 10s are higher than they should be.

It's funny - whenever I look for one, the price is always high. If I want to sell one, the price is always low. I would never make it as a gun dealer...

I gladly paid $400 for this fine example a few months back... and feel fortunate to have the gun at that price. They just ain't makin' these babies no more... haven't for a long time either.

Hey D...Those 19 snubbies are getting hard to find compared to the 4" and 6" models. I would gladly give $400 for one, and that's a beauty!

The fact is that the nice ones are going for premium prices, so if you want one...get one. They’re not going to get cheaper.
I'm not going to sweat an extra $50 or even a $100, for a gun I really want, and that I'll regret not getting later.

Frenchy makes a great point... sometimes we'll pass over a gun because it's $50 or $75 more than we think we should spend... but when you think about it, if it's a gun that's not made anymore and is highly desireable and in good condition, what's another $50 or $75... you would spend that much for a nice dinner for two and poop it back out the next day! Not that I think we need to spend more than we have to, but when you find a goodie, it's usually worth spending some money to obtain it. And he's also right that they're not gettin' any cheaper over time.

DHart-Very well said! I have tried to live my life to that standard. Life is to short to quibble over a couple bucks($50-$100) for something that you truly want. The dinner analogy is great and I use that all the time. Thanks.

DHart,

Photography like that sure makes those guns look like they're worth the extra money. Great pictures. I've been looking for a great condition model 19 snubby for a long time. (I would really love to find a 3" model 19.)

Great phots guys !........I just picked up a used 2.5" M19-4 in nice condition for $290...no box or docs......I think I did good. I agree it makes sense not to quibble over $50-$100 ( 10 med.- 5 large pizzas !) if you see one you really want. A nice .357 Mag K Frame is a classic.....those triggers are so dang smooooooth !.....and all your excellent photos don't do anything BUT increase the "drool factor". :D

-regards

Diamondback, I like your logic. Dinner, drinks etc.with a lady costs the down payment on a nice gun. I used that logic on myself and have a $600 MIG welder.
Back to topic six years ago 6" model 19 with x2 Burris scope 98+%
$250. Don't have it any more, a very special lady friend fell in love with it. I do still have visiting rights.

........then it was worth it to give it away....I assume visiting rights include both the M19 AND the lady ! :D

Diamondback, $290? I have not seen a 2.5" 19 even close to that price range around here. Nice buy!
