OK, I know the Dillion Super Swage 600 is a good tool for the job. My question is, how does the fairly new RCBS bench Swage Tool compare? Is the Dillion really worth the 25% higher cost? I give up with all the other tools I'm using and I'm going to buy one or the other so if you have used both please enlighten me. Thanks...

I have the RCBS one and also the RCBS die set. I've never used the Dillon but the RCBS bench mounted swagger is so much better that the die set it's like night and day. I have mine mounted on a piece of 1" board and when I'm sizing range pickup I move it to where I can use it without having to finish running the batch I'm working on before I change the die out to swag one or two pieces of brass. If possible I would to see if there is a shop that has bothe and then look them over and pick the one you like. I'm sure either one will do the job. I'm also a bit of brand junkie as most of my reloading equipment is RCBS.

Mainly its a difference of ergonomics and taste. Both function about equal.

The Dillon has a long handle that hangs over the bench kind of like a press. The RCBS handle is shorter and pulls sideways across the bench.

I liked that RCBS concept, because it allowed me to mount mine behind and to the left of my Rock Chucker. Then with my Trim Mate mounted to the left of THAT, also back on the bench, I could use the press, swager and the Trim Mate at the same time to deprime, swage, and processes on the Trim Mate (for me, usually flash hole reamer, and uniformer). All without having to move my drafting stool.

Of course the Dillon has it's "rubberband" trick mod that is handy.....again taste.....being able to "automate" the lever wasn't as important to me as the bench placement option on the RCBS.....I can leave it set up and it's not in the way.

I dont have the RCBS one, but I do use the Dillon. To me the ergonomics look a little more akward than the Dillon. The anvil design on the Dillon allows you to move through brass pretty quick. If its a $25 difference, I'm biased towards the Dillon. Not sure you get the same amount of leverage moving the ram parallel to the bench top. With the dillon, you get the same leverage as you do when using your reloading press.

Yes, yes it is. I have processed many rounds through the Dillon. Any tool that costs just as much as new on the secondary market (ebay) has got to be worth something. The design of the handle and the adjustment makes for quick work.

HAHA,funny I just finished swaging 300 Hornady .308 Match crimped cases 10 minutes ago.I use the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager Combo # 9495.It's the only one I've ever used and it works good.I've used it on 5.56 crimpted cases too. I bought it used at a gun show for 10 bucks. hdbiker

I gave up on all swagers and just ream them out with the Hornady and now RCBS reamer bit in a drill, locked in my bench vice. I can process at least 2 to 1 over a swagger maybe more.

Folks clain the swager leaves metal that is "supposed" to be there I disagree it is extra metal due to a damn crimp. Non military brass doesn't have it.

I really like RCBS products and their customer service is excellent. However I have been using the Dillon 600 for approximately 20 years now with no problems. I have removed the crimp from thousands of cases and the tool has not failed once. The only minor concern with the Dillon is it can be a little messy switching from small to large primers. I was really bored during the past snow storm and made a jig out of an old .223 case and removed the crimp from half an ammo case full of WWC 9mm brass. Either of these tools will probably meet your needs but after using the Dillon for so long without any problems I would recommend the Dillon.

Thanks for all the first hand information. It's exactly what I was looking for although I still can't decide but I was always leaning on the side of the Dillon. I'm also and RCBS can so it's a hard choice.

Rcbs is about $70. Lube the head now and then. Bolt to 2x4, then c-clamp the whole thing to your bench when needed. I'm sure they're both good, rather simple.

I currently drill out crimped primer pockets and it has worked pretty well.

After seeing this video, I was sold on Dillon Super Swage and would be the swager I buy. The simple rubber mod makes it fast and easy to swage.

Rule3, no wonder. I've been operating my Dillon 650 wrong all this time!

I showed the video to my wife and told her, "Honey, the 650 was supposed to be operated by a woman with long hair. You just need to grow your hair longer so you can operate it properly." :D She said she would grow her hair longer so she could properly operate the 650.

So is that why I've been able to operate Pro 1000s properly over the decades when wearing red/black T-shirts because Lee videos show man wearing red/black T-shirts operating them? ;)

OK, back to OP.

Just don't be a bull in a china closet......these aluminum wonders (blue or green) are made of very thin metal, and people have cracked them at the pressure points. Don't slam them around, with that big handle.

As I said before they both work well.......but I have to add, neither hold up to abuse like a press can.

I'm thinking about filling the underside voids of mine with epoxy putty.....it'd be good if I actually get it done before I break it.....

Thanks everyone, I bought the Dillon Super Swage 600. I appreciate the help and thanks to Reefinmike.

And Arch slowly creeps over to the Blue side. The force is strong.;)

Arch, enjoy your swager! Either one is simple and easy to use....nearly effortless.

You can paint the blue one green if you want. The bonus is it will piss off a lot of people who care about silly things like tool colors.

Now that's funny! Thanks for the laugh...

I have loading tools from Lee, RCBS, Forsters, Lyman, Hornady and a few others. I guess I'm one of the confused people lol!!!
