Primers on sale at Midway

I checked that out tonight as I needed some #41 Nato primers.

I found them at Powder Valley, Midway and Grafs. Grafs had the best pricing. 2 weeks ago, I couldn't find them at all. Maybe the hoarders are running out of room and things are looking brighter.

Who knows, maybe 22LRs won't be far behind

I just checked them out. By the time you add in hazmat fee & their outrageous shipping charge, the price ( for a thousand) is more than doubled.

I can't justify paying hazmat, and shipping unless I'm doing a group buy. I just picked up 5,000 CCI#41 primers for $36.95/1k, 2,000 Tul KVB-223 primers for $25/1k, and 2,000 CCI SPP for $31.95/1k at a LGS last Saturday.

How much were you going to order. Mine were about $30/1000 after I made my order. But we bought 20K

Just 1000, not a group buy, & I was just getting them because I had a few other things on my wish list that I was going to combine with them to spread out the shipping charge, but at that volume, it doesn't make sense - 5K makes more sense, as shipping/ handling & hazmat are the same.

I am willing to order powder and/or primers on line if I can make a $200-$300 plus order. That is my break point. I figure shipping is off set by sales tax.

If I need a pound of powder or 1000 primers, then i wait until I can get it locally at a gun show. I find local gun stores in my area less than adequate when it comes to powder and primers. There is a good supplier that comes to most of the local gun shows in my area.

Others will have different thresholds with the hazmat fee.

Yeah, for 1000 try to buy from a retail outlit. Lots of stores around here have them its just that they are $40/1000.
Save up a few bucks and get in on a group buy. Things are getting better about supply.
At Midway when you buy primers or powder they come from different places so even if you combined with stuff from your "wish list" you would not save any money. They won't ship grips, holsters, or other stuff with your primers. At least they would not for me.

Yeah I don't order primers online unless its 5k+. It's cheaper to buy them locally if I buy less than that. Just trying to help those that may be having a tough time finding primers. I wouldn't think about ordering powder online either unless it was 8lbs+, but I'd have to be in desperate need/want to make an order that small.

Yea I agree. The last time I ordered online by myself, I ordered 16lb of powder, and 10k primers from Grafs. Also the primers were on sale for $119/5k. I got a group buy up twice last year with 10 other shooting buddies. That's really the way to go. I had the shippment sent to my house since it was shipped freight line, and everyone picked up from me. The shipping, and HM fee was nearly unnoticeable when split between 10 individuals. I have a feeling it will be a long time before we are able to do group buys like that.

I have been looking for the #41s for a while now. Like the rest of you, I hate paying the hazmat, but if you can't find them locally and need them at this point in time, you have to do what you have to do. I got 5000, so I figured that the hazmat came out to 1/2 cent each.

If you compare that to the cost of other components to load a case, it's still pretty cheap

Not a bad price if you buy a lot of them. I would take advantage of it but I cleaned Powder Valley out of CCI 500s the other day and that's all I really need right now.

That's what I'm thinkin. You have to get while the gettins good.

If I had to pay Midway's "sale prices" for primers, plus shipping and hazmat, I think I'd give up reloading.

Midway's sale prices whip the pants off of what a lot of other places were and still are charging just a few months ago. I pay $42 after tax at the local Cabelas when I can't afford a bulk order. Still a whole lot cheaper than buying factory ammo, even if that ammo is normally priced. With even with paying high Cabelas prices on primers my .45acp is only costing me about $0.09/ea using home-cast bullets. Sure beats $0.50/ea for factory stuff.

Found CCI 500 at my local Bass Pro tonight for $37 per 1000. Not a fabulous price, but below what I have been finding locally for the past year. Pretty surprising because BPS is normally pretty high on their reloading components. In fact, Winchester small pistol were selling for $49 per thousand. I picked up a brick of the CCI.

Its no secret that buying primers online requires a larger purchase to offset the hazmat. If you're just wanting to buy 1k, then go to your local gun shop and pay $35-40 for them, that's what I do most often. You need to be able to spend 2-300 dollars to make it work out.

If anyone is interested, Powder Valley has some primers in stock as well. Tula stuff for $23.50/1k.

I have about 100k primers on hand. I don't remember paying more than $23 per k for any of them. Bought a bunch of them for a lot less than $23.

I think MidwayUSA's prices on primers are better than what they were earlier this year (Thank goodness). Keep in mind that while many of us have LGS nearby where we can pick up 1000 primers whenever we want, some reloaders live in remote areas without any LGS and must order online.

If you are ordering online, I think 10,000 minimum is the way to go to spread out the cost of HazMat fee as only $2.75 will be added to the cost of primers. So if you are getting primers online for $23, $25, $27 per 1000, with HazMat fee spread out, they would be $25.75, $27.75, $29.75. Still a decent price for primers (and they are actually in stock now :)).

If you buy 20,000+ primers, HazMat fee becomes negligible and if you know several reloaders, arranging group buys is a good way to lower your reloading cost.
