Just thought I'd show you guys my newest almost finished project :)

Who can tell me what it is? (Hint... it's not a Remington and all the parts including the muzzle brake are original. The barrel has been shortened to 19" total including the permanently attached muzzle brake)

By looking at the ejection port, I'd say it's a Mossberg or some variant. Looks pretty sweet though.

Not a Winchester either. Another hint, it's from around the mid 60's and only fires 2 3/4" shells. Originally came with 3 screw in chokes, and the muzzle brake was permanently attached from the factory. It is made in the USA.

I'll need to have it in my hands for closer inspection. I'll just PM you my address and after a year or five I should have it identified!

I wish. If it was a S&W I wouldn't have hacked it down. The value in all original condition, if I had cleaned it up and left it all original, and fixed the stock, would be about $250 max. I got it for $75, and put $50 into it so no loss really.

Steel Talon got it. Good job :D

lol. It was a fun project (I'm on a wierd gunsmithing kick lately since converting my Saiga). Once the new stock gets here I plan on stripping all the wood and refinishing it with ebony stain. It's gonna be a pretty little social butterfly ;)

don,t tell me you got it at a pawn shop, every body gets guns cheap at pawn shops but me, all the pawn shops here in N.E. Georgia are way over priced, i have not had a good deal at a pawn shop since i lived in Ft myers, Fla.

Nah, the pawn shops here are way overpriced. I got it from a buddy that broke the stock and didn't want it anymore. I liked the muzzle brake on it and decided I wanted a shotgun since I regretted selling my last one. Now I just gotta find a 3 gun competition locally and see how badly I get stomped with my AK, my "new" old pump and my 1911. :p

I'm a fan of JC Higgins, have had one since the 1960/61 They were sold by Sears and RoeBuck made by Hi Standard.

I have taken multitudes of birds (Dove quail, chukar grouse, pheasant) rabbits squirrels and rattlers have also shot a lot of trap with it.

Before I cut it down, it was a VERY fast pointing gun, and not whippy at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see some old timers out on the skeet range with a J.C. Higgins (unless they're the rich money type with a beretta or franchi or something even more expensive that I have no need or reason to know about lol)

Nice job. Does the muzzle brake count toward total barrel length, from a L.E.O./A.T.F. perspective?
