Recently there has been a lot of discussion in the news media about a proposal to reduce the federal classification of marijuana, making possession of it less serious under federal law. I have looked at many discussions of this, and I don't see any mention of what, if anything, this would mean regarding the current situation that says it is a federal crime to be a marijuana user and possess a firearm. Does anyone know the answer to this, or is it too early to tell? BTW, before you jump to conclusions, I am not a marijuana user.

If y’all want this to stay open in Legal, someone needs to track down some laws or bill’s supporting this. Discussions “in the news” doesn’t really cut it for Legal discussions.

The Seattle Times reported that the US Attorney General "circulated a proposal to reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III." That is all the detail I know at this time.

... is it too early to tell? BTW, before you jump to conclusions, ...

It's most likely too early to tell.

I started looking at this issue because it's probably going to come up in our classes. All I've seen so far are vague generalities.

As we often say, the details matter. So until we start seeing some concrete proposals, there's really nothing to discuss.

I'm closing this one. But if anyone has any credible evidence of some concrete actions being taken by any of the federal agencies, please PM me. I can either consider re-opening this thread or suggest starting a new one.
