I finished an HK Wide body handguard and buttstock
with a Desert tan finish, similar to the Duracote-finished FALs
on DSA's website.

I really liked the uniqueness of these finishes, so I gave it a go.

Hope you all like it.

That looks pretty cool. It is my goal some time in the future to make a custom furniture set for my HK91 (buttstock, wide handguard and pistol grip). I want it to have a mottled bakelite-type orange finish, like the handguard on this AK:

And would like the handguard to be "ribbed" like this:

It would be truly unique. I wish there was someone I could pay to do it for me but I think I will have to do it myself.

Do the whole thing. Don't be afraid and just do it.

Just make sure you're really good at it before you add one or more other new
colors on top of it. When it comes to home camo, less is always better.

Yes, you will have difficulties reselling quickly at the local gunstore because
most people are clueless when it comes to what duracoat is. The weekend
spraycan and bondo fix-it type guys will assume you were somehow covering
up something that was wrong with the rifle.

Also, I don't know how to do a mottled finish with a sprayer, but by hand
with slower drying paints (NOT for firearms) "sponge" finishing isn't hard. I
think the duracoat would dry too quickly to attempt this and would come off
looking messed up. You can do a lighter spray "ghost" finish.

Yeah that mottled finish looks really cool.

The thing I like about the HK furniture is the fact that you can change it out, like clothes.
Once I get a different trigger group I will finish out the pistol grip.

I was just planning on buying a plain handguard, buttstock and pistol grip and painting those. These parts can be changed out easily.

But I'd never sell it in the first place. I like it too much.
