Are there any public ranges anywhere north of Dallas? A friend of mine mine told me of one in the Tom Bean area....anyone familiar with this one? Are there any others? Thanks

I guess it depends on what you're shooting.

The Bullet Trap is an indoor pistol range in Plano. It's not "members only" but range fees are less expensive if you're a member. They've also got a TON of test fire guns if you're looking to try anything out.

Bullet Trap is OK, but they are randomly "picky" about what you shoot there.

They don't allow 5.7x28 even out of a handgun for example, even though the standard hollow point 5.7 rounds don't do near the damage to backstops as many other things.

It seems that they have grabbed the "5.7 is armor piercing" thing and run with it, even though it's not remotely true.

That's kinda goofy in my opinion so I don't spend money with them any more.

I shoot at Garland Public Shooting Range and Bullet Trap. I have heard that Collin County Gun Range in McKinney was re-opened again, but I cannot confirm that.

I'm looking for an outdoor rifle range near by. We have an indoor pistol range here. I'm about 60 miles north of Dallas, up Hwy 75.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's the "tumbling round" thing or what, they just think it damages their backstop. It's odd that they sell the fiveseven and p90 but you can't shoot them on range, yet other pistol round carbines are fine. I just shoot pistols there, so I'm not too picky. . . yet. . .

O.K.........What about around Dallas? Any outdoor rifle ranges anyone can recommend?

Ralph's Range in Tom Bean is at the bottom of this page:

I drove by there Friday night and while the buildings are there, it's still closed. I believe City of McKinney eventually bought them out.

Thanks!.... dogtown tom......that's what I was looking for all along. I heard of it, just could not find it.......

Quail Creek at the intersection of 1171 and I-35W, just north of Texas Motor Speedway. Maybe a bit out of your way but another option...
