Greetings,
What size cupped punch do I need to remove the front sight pin on a S&W Model 60-9?
Is there any particular direction to drive it out?

Probably a 1/16" pin punch.
You might want to start it out with a cup-head nail-set to prevent flattening the rounded head.

Always drive sights & pins:
Out from the left to right.
In from right to left.

It may not matter on that sight pin, but it is a good rule to always follow, just in case.

Sorry to be getting back so late on this; thanks for the input rcmodel.

I found that the pin is .050 inch. Brownells has the punch I need.

Greg

Well there you go then.
Brownell's to the rescue again!

Funny my 1/16" (.0625") punch fits the older ones I have used them on.

They (S&W) must have down-sized lately!

Brownells also has cup tip punches specifically made for S&W through pins.
Ask for Tech Support if you can't find them in the catalog.

To update; I finally got around to putting an XS sight on my Model 60-9.
S&W customer service (should have called Brownells tech support as Onmilo suggested) said that the front sight pin was .050" and that's the size punch I ordered from Brownells. The punch worked fine, but the pin turned out to be .055". It requires a #54 drill bit to install. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out:

If anyone is interested, I put together a little "how I did it" (YMMV) here:
