Python value?

What would be a fair price for a 2" Colt Python S.N. MM73411, blued (100%),like new condition? I'll try to get pics up tomorrow...

BTW how can you tell if a Python has been refinished or is in original condition?

Are you sure about the serial number ?
That sounds like an Anaconda number.
Box, no box, manual, any signs of blueing wear at all ?
Around $1500 with out seeing it.

FYI: It would be a 2.5 inch barrel.

No box, no manual, no visible blueing wear, bore is impecable... there is one grip screw missing however. It locks up very, very tight. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow, because I just have this gut feeling that the blueing can't be original, it's in too good shape for a gun with no box... what should new Python blueing look like? Should it be polished shiny or have a more brushed finish?

It would be polished and shiny.

I'd deduct a substantial amount for that missing grip screw. Replacing it would create a miss-matched weapon, and an original Colt Python grip screw could set you back plenty.

It looks like the finish is satin. The factory finish is gloss. Also, the grips are not original.

Hmm, so the value just tanked... collector issues aside, I'm thinking it might make a nice carry gun for my pop, who's been looking to replace his Taurus 4" for something more comfy. What should I pay for it?

Have to agree, not original finish. And i don't think it's missing a grip screw, rather has one screw that goes thru and screws in on the other side. IF someone's trying to pass it off as original, I'd be very careful.

Yep, the grip screw is in those grips, but it's not an original gun. Still, $600 wouldn't be too bad.

First, it's been refinished with a really non-Python satin finish, which may not even be bluing, but may be one of the polymer coatings.

Second, the front of the side plate by the front screw is damaged.

Third, the hammer is either a replacement or one that's been altered.

Value nose dives, so it's strictly a shooter.

The good news: The original Colt grips are worth over $100.

I'd give 400.00 for it. But, then again, I gave 755.00 for a K-22 with no box or papers - I'm probably not a good market indicator.

It's probably blasphemy but I rather like the kindasorta blued hammer and trigger. I'd make sure it worked first - getting them fixed LOCALLY is a bear, unless one lives in CT.

People keep forgetting us mere mortals have to cough up a ton of air freight to get these beasts out of state and back again.

Hence the reason I am trying to get away from Colt altogether.
