I am interested in a high quality night vision scope. Are any available with the capability of identifying and firing on a target like a coyote with confidence at 100 yards with only starlight?

I have used a gen 3 monocular, but was only satisfied on nights with moonlight at maybe 30 to 50 yards. I have seen a lot of marketing info that says yes, but I would like to hear from someone not trying to sell me something for big bucks!!

some body will move this to accesories.

if you get some ir filters and tape them over or have one that is made for it,a jillion candle power light most any nvd will work for animal observation or shooting.

just starlite,i don't know. i guess the higher end may work.

I was hoping to stay under the $5000 range, but I don't know if what I want is even available. I do know that interested in going cheap and then not getting the performance I need

you might want to check out morovision.com to get an idea of prices and options. They areone of the bigger makers. You should definitely be able to achieve your goals. What you might want to look into is an IR laser illuminator. These are usally a military type of item, but they are essentially a laser "spotlight" that can go out thousands of yards and create a focused light.

on, another big maker is atncorp.com.

The model number for that laser illuminator is the peq-2. Do a google search and you can get some info about that.

no problem. I just got a gen 3 monocular, and it's performance is pretty darn good. with a higher-power IR source and quality optics I don't think you'd any real problems going out to 100 yards.

If you add an IR illuminator, you can see out a ways even with early generation scopes. I potted more than a few critters with a suppressed 22 topped with a Gen 1+ ATN and an IR filtered SureFire.

It's cool to go out at night and use a cheapie gen 1 monocular and see if anyone is out in the fields with night vision. The IR lights look like laser lights. Game wardens find poachers that way.
