Question about Stoeger Cougar and Beretta semi autos

I'm curious about the durability of the take down mechanism on the Stoeger Cougar and Beretta semi-auto pistols. Here is a picture in which I have circled the part (in red) that I am talking about.



On the Stoeger Cougar I owned I was worried that it (the part in the red circle above) might be too flimsy. So, what has been your experience. Does it get loose after time? The Beretta m9 has been a military pistol for many years; so, maybe I am worrying for nothing - but...?

Several Beretta models have that design. I've never heard of a problem with any of them.

I own three Cougars and a couple of Browning BDA's that have this type of takedown lever. I never thought of them as flimsy, they seem adequate for what they do.

For my last gun purchase, I was considering a Beretta 92 FS and this one issue stopped me cold. I got a CZ 75 BD instead. I'm glad I chose the CZ over the Beretta. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but little things like this really bug me. I've sold other guns for similar (but different) petty dislikes.

you're worrying about nothing

are you worried that the rotating plate is too thin or that the pin is too small. both parts are much sturdier than their counter parts on Glocks and i think it's a much nicer system that pushing the pin out of 1911s, FNs or S&Ws

Whichever gun you prefer and shoot well

Given a choice between the two, I would go with whichever caliber is available in the gun you want. After that, I would go with the caliber that you shoot best.

I doubt that we will see any higher pressure versions of the .357 SIG. It is already a very high pressure round.

I would skip the +P .45ACP as well. Just use a high performance round like the HYDRO-SHOK in the .45ACP. You get more recoil and not much (if any) increase of effectiveness.

Never had a problem now saw any wear on the takedown lever. I don't believe it sees any real stress, and I really liked that part of the Berettas (that was about ALL, but I liked that part) <g>

The military has tested the Beretta extensively both in contract tests and combat. It has been used as a sidearm for police departments around the world including Los Angeles and the Border patrol. The durability of the pistols take down lever or system has never come into question.

Imagination is a wonderful thing but it can lead to unreasonable fear.

I frequent several boards, including berettaforum.net. Never ever have seen anything close to a complaint about the takedown lever breaking.

Exactly right. The same type lever is on the Cougars, 92's and Cheetahs....proven reliable.

No problems with that design at all. Over a few year period, I have stripped mine down and it is still as sturdy now as the day it was new.

I wear my Cougar out. I mean I shoot it weekly. You are worried about nothing here. There is not near as much pressure on it (takedown lever) as you may think friend.
