Don't know if this has been posted before. SOG (Southern Ohio Guns) has a supply of the Baretta Cougar 8000 pistols in 9mm. The Cougar has the rotating barrel disconnect instead of the link that lifts the barrel to disconnect from the slide found on most semi-autos. Said to be very accurate shooters..........

I have been on a waiting list for a new Stoeger Cougar since January - the same pistol Baretta once had in the US market but dropped because they were too expensive to compete. I think Baretta owns the Turkish company Stoeger, (if not, I'm sure someone here will correct me). Word is that they now have permission from the Turkish government to manufacture the Cougar in Turkey under the Stoeger name, and have back-orders up the wazoo. Anyhoo, I bought the used Baretta instead of waiting for who-knows-how-long for the new Stoeger. Check 'em out on the SOG site.

I'm assuming you have a liscnece?

Their website says they won't even give you a price without one.

Beretta does own Stoeger. They actually shipped all of the tooling to Turkey. If you follow Benelli at all you will also see that Stoeger makes an identical gun to the Benelli Nova - same deal there.

What did you pay for the Beretta? I think you made an excellent choice regardless.

IMO, the Beretta will always retain its value where the Stoeger will not. Let's face it, even if it's the same gun Beretta is Beretta and Stoeger is Stoeger. Last year I picked up an Inox Cougar NIB from a dealer for $500 out the door with 4 mag's and never looked back.

It's odd that you were having trouble getting the Stoeger, I've seen them at all my local shops and even Gander Mountain has them sitting on the shelf. Could be a regional thing..

Troy 26 - Yes, I have a C&R license. $30 for three years, eligible for direct purchase and shipment for C&R guns only.

HOWEVER, gun dealers like SOG treat the Class 03 C&R FFL the same as the class 01 Gun Dealer FFL for purposes of registering as a customer. You get the same prices the dealers get, just have to have it shipped to a transfer dealer with a Class 01 FFL.

cpirtle - $342 including S/H and transfer dealer's fee, AND it included an extra 15-round magazine.

Local area gun shop (Olathe, KS) has one in the display case for $425. With tax it would be about $455-460 out the door - NO extra magazine. I'm happy with my "deal".

That's an excellent price for a used one. I see them going regularly on the Beretta forum for $425-$475 for used blued ones.

I'll be curious to see long term how the Stoeger effects pricing on the Beretta's. Does not seem to have had an impact yet but people are just starting to report back on the Stoeger. (reports are all good from what I've seen)
