I've got a Leupold Mark 4 MR/T scope with illuminated reticle. The knob that controls the illumination feature of the reticle seems like it turns almost too easily. The off position for the control knob doesn't have a detent either. Is everyone else's scope like this? I was thinking that at the very least when in the off position the knob should sort of "lock" into a detent which would make it harder to accidentally bump the control knob and accidentally run down the battery.

Uh oh. I'm not able to answer your questions as I'm not familiar with that model, but wanted to say that there has been a rash of counterfeit Leupolds out there and some of the tell-tale signs are similar to what you're observing. Can you confirm the provenance of your scope?

I'm sure the experts will be along shortly to answer your question a bit better.

I've heard about the counterfeit scopes. It's a shame for the folks that got taken in by the scammers.

My scope is the real deal though. It was bought through a reputable high volume Leupold dealer. I've seen a couple pictures of the fakes. They are pretty easy to spot and just look cheesy.

Other than the above listed minor gripe about my scope, it has performed very well. Although I would still prefer an ACOG if they were a little more user friendly in conjuction with the M1A platform. I don't like any of the ACOG mounts for the M1A, and they make the ACOG sit awfully high. It's also hard to get an ACOG mounted far enough to the rear for proper eye relief. Smith seems to have the best ACOG mount for the M1A, but it is heavy, and it requires removing the rear sight which I'm not about to do. Anyhow, I'm rambling off topic.

Anyone know if my Mark 4 is normal, or does it have a problem?
