Ok, so I'm looking for a quad rail for my Olympic amrs AR-15. There is one offered by the weapon manufacturer for about $100, which comes with "a barrel nut and tension bolts".

My question is why? I take it this guard doesn't install via the spring and collar like the standard hand guards do, so would it be necessary to remove the gas block and barrel in order to install? Hence the inclusion of the barrel nut?

I am also looking at one over at Midwest industries which looks like it simply snaps into place like the stock guards, and for only $50 more than the Oly' guard.

I'm really not looking to take a lot of things apart for this project, I'd really like to be able to just swap them out and be done. Anyone have any experience with these guards they'd like to share? Any suggestions?

Surefire has quadrails that line up on each other, then 2 small bolts tighten them into place, rock solid, no movement at all. They also dont place pressure on the delta ring or spring when installed right. They take a bit of effort removing them, but they arent too bad.

Do you want free-float, or not? If you want free float, I HIGHLY recommend Daniel Defense's Omega rail. The hardest part of the install is removing the original handguard.

Pricey, though.

Mike
