Cslinger; I just saw you mentioned having most of the Weihrauch rifles.
My question is do you have the HW85 and 95, or at least know the differences between them? The two appear to be the same gun except for barrel length, but I don't have much info to go on. The shorter 95 is advertised by Weihrauch as having the same power as the 85. Airguns of Arizona (AAZ) lists the 95 having more power, but they show conflicting info on the 85 so all the data is likely wrong. The velocity on the Weihrauch site for those and many other guns are equal and imo are probably estimates. AAZ shows the 85 as 22% more expensive than the 95, and 10% more than the 95 Luxus which only confuses me further.
Basically I'd love to have the 95, but would prefer the longer barrel. If the 85 is in some way better which explains the much higher price then I'll consider it, but AAZ doesn't list an 85 in .177 (which is what I'm after) so that complicates my problem even further. If they're the same except for barrel length then I'll get the 95 in .22 and buy a longer .177 barrel separately and have both calibers to play with. I would consider the 80 but it's a bit heavy imo. Cocking effort is also a factor, but I haven't been able to find reliable info there either. I was hoping a 95 is <30lbs, and <25 with the long barrel. Power is another, what pellet was used to get this claimed 290m/s per Weihrauch. If 7.0gr then I'll need to reconsider everything, or at least expect cocking effort to be 10lbs less.
Thanks in advance.

Don't take this as gospel but I believe the 85 was an early attempt at a lightweight springer that eventually became the 95. Iirc the 85 has a longer barrel. It has been said the 85 is made better. I do not have one.

I have a 95 luxus in.22 with a rear peep sight. It has a fairly rough cock/a little gritty and mine is fairly hold sensitive but one I figured out the hold and that it preferred H&N FTT pellets it is. Dead nuts on. It is a very light airgun. Almost feels like a big beeman R7/HW30s just not as smooth. That light weight requires more skill/hold and trigger pull precision than a heavier rifle.

All in all I like my 95 but it has been my hardest taskmaster in terms of learning to shoot it well. Now that I can it has been very rewarding.

I have read the 85 might be less hold sensitive but again only going on hearsay. I have never even seen an 85.

Hope this helps a little.

If you are looking at AOA then the Rws Hobby pellet was probably used. Ohh and when I say rough cock above I don't mean weight its a fairly easy to cock spring gun. I mean that breaking it open and the act of cocking isn't as pleasant feeling as my other HWs. You feel the spring, feel a bit of "grit" so to speak. It's really not bad but compared to my 77/97 or hw30s that feel like that are on greased polished ball bearings it is an outlier. But like I said. Find your hold and pellet choice and it will stack pellets on top of each other and does shoot hard.

I just checked out AOA and apparently the 85 has fiber optic sights. If you plan to use the irons get the 95. The replaceable front sight inserts are awesome and way better then the FO sights imo.

Thank you for that. I'm surprised there is any quality difference, I would've assumed equal and top quality across the board. Maybe yours just has something in it or a slight flaw? Whichever one I get I will immediately take it apart for a tune and such so it will be smooth as glass regardless of what it was before. I will also be removing the sights and using a scope. I'm really liking the 95, but I was also hoping for 18ftlbs. I already have a FWB 124D so not much point it getting the 95 if the power is the same. I'm wondering if they respond well to tuning or if they're already close to maxed out? Also curious if getting the 20" barrel will net some fps. I could get it in .22, then a 20" .177 barrel. I had an HW90 but it was very heavy and cocking effort excessive for the power you got in return, otherwise it was a work of art and the highest quality gun of any type I have ever owned. Probably the highest quality piece of equipment I've ever owned period. I'm tempted to get the 80 instead, but all I can think about is the weight of the 90. I'm sure the 80 is much easier to cock, I hope.

So you know what? My HW95 does indeed have an issue. I noticed the harshness getting worse and the velocity really dropped off. So I tore her down and the piston seal has big ole' divot in in. A big hunk of the polymer was missing and obviously letting compressed heated air seep behind the piston seal further eroding it. My guess is it was nicked in some way during factory installation and eroded over time/use making it worse.

At any rate I have new seals and a JM tuning kit in the mail. Figured as long as I have it torn down I might as well do some work on the inside. Its been a good learning experience.

That's messed up. I've never seen any seal do that, and it makes me wonder if the material is older and/or experimental stuff that can't handle heat? Or maybe you lubed it with something it didn't agree with and melted it. I mean it looks like it's made of wax and you took a lighter to it, doesn't it? An aftermarket seal will no doubt be much better material. And of course don't ruin the new one during install... I remove all the sharp edges so they glide right in with zero damage, but many people just ignore me and stuff the new one in which is promptly ruined. If you can, let me know which seal you got, and take a few pix of it so I can decide if I want it or another type. Not much info with his seals and kits, and I'm not buying $60 worth to see which is best.
