What do you guys know about the 7.62x51mm South African battle pack ammo?

What do you know about Portugese surplus manufactured in 10/ 79 (of the same caliber)?

I know that I shoulda bought a lot more about a year ago when it was flooding the market. It's head-and-shoulders above that filthy Indian .308. Why - do you have an affordable source for it? I'd certainly buy more if I could get it at a reasonable price.

Taken, sorry.:p

One of those once in a lifetime deals, really.

It's good, it's currently expensive.

I believe at least some of the Port. is steel core (Mild)
It got me almost thrown out of the Scottsdale gun club range.
(I didn't know, and hadn't bothered to check.)

Edited to add: So brag... atleast you can tell us how good you got it.

Good ammo, both. I've shot tons of it through my FALs and M1 Garand (converted). It's typical milsurp. 147ish gr FMJ. Brass cased. Berdan primed (not reloadable) brass case. Probably good for 2 or 3MOA on a good day.

At the gunshow last month, I went with a friend who was expressly looking for the South African. He only found ONE dealer who had it, he bought everything the guy had, and it was expensive.

Personally I think SA ammo sucks. I bought a sealed battlepack. Took it out to the range and it jammed my FAL, VEPR and M14. I can understand one or two rifles but not all three.

Figured it was just a bad battlepack. Bought another sealed battlepack a year later, still jammed my FAL.

That doesn't happen when I shoot Port, RG or even Wolf.

???Works fine in my M1A and FAL. Think I've shot it in my CETME... (May have been Port. though, I don't keep track with that one, it's just for blasting.)

I have seen South African work well in M1A, PTR-91, and DPMS AR10. (not all mine :) ) It seems to be clean ammo in good shape, at least what I have.
The DPMS did choke on some formerly linked ammo.
