Questions on sealing my reloads and powder Q

I am working up 2 separate 308win loads, one for my M1A and one for my scoped rifle. The M1A I've yet to get some components for, but will most likely use LC or some other once fired brass, as well as either M80 projectiles or a commercial 150-155 grain commercial projectile. For that load I'm attempting to load it as cheaply as I can while keeping the load accurate, as the rifle will shoot 2.5" 100yard 5 shot groups with good surplus 7.62nato ammunition. I will probably use IMR 4895 or a Pulldown equivilant.

For both loads I want to seal the primers and necks. I was wondering how I can best do this? Mainly what procedure and materials I'll need to seal the bullets.

Also for the M1A I was wonering if pulldown powder will get me that 2.5" group at 100yards that I can get with Port 7.62 surplus? If so, I will save a significant amount of money on this load.

Just as an FYI, I'm going to use Varget on my 1st batch of ammo for the scoped rifle, as well at 175 grain SMK's.

I do not recommed sealing the neck because it could cause excessive pressure.

Right on the nail polish for sealing the primer.

There are a couple of companies that make this type of product. I've never usedit but a friend of mine does all the time. I think his is called george and roys, something like that.

It's a sealant, not a glue. It is doubtful that it will raise the pressures enough to count. Good way to find out is to run a few over a chronograph and compare them with some that are not sealed if you are in doubt.

I haven't gotten to try them at 600yds, but they are working fine at 200 & 300yds--under a minute in a match M1A with pulldown 4895.

I use nail polish to seal my huntin loads, In your case when loading for a M-14 be sure to use "tactical green"

As stated nail polish works well. Why do you want to seal them?

I want them sealed in the rare event my ammunition is to be exposed to water or become submerged briefly. If that were to happen I would like for my ammunition to remain in a safe, useable condition.

308 load

i just tried some varget out for the first time, i used 45gr with a smk 175gr on top, i cleaned the cases and primer pockets set the primer and reset it at a 180degres trimed them to if needed. i got a SD of 11.18 at a FPS of 2716 that not bad,oh yea i weighed each piece of brass and kept them in lots according to what they weighed,i think it payed off but when it came time to try them out at 500 and 1000 yards it was to windy,ho well next time.

The main ingredient in nail polish is nitrocellulose, also the main ingredient in smokeless powder. How cool is that?

Nah, not dangerous.

The amount of nitrocellulose you are painting on is truly miniscule. This is easy to show. Take an empty catridge and weigh it. Now paint a band of nail polish around it, more than you'd use to seal the bullet. Now weigh it again. You may see a small difference before the acetone evaporates. On my 10-10 scale, there's no measurable difference after the polish dries. There's less than 0.05 grains of dried nail polish on that case.

Even if nail polish burns as hot and fast as smokeless powder, there just ain't enough of it there to matter.
