Raffle shotgun under $800

Hey guys,

I'm in a local Jaycees chapter and we're considering a raffle for a shotgun under $800 to go to charity and to get our name out there, attract new members, ect. This is heavy hunting country. I'm kinda out of my league heading this up since I shoot an antique Savage and an 870 express. So for under $800, what would you select and why? Thanks!

Talk to your gun store owner or FFL holder and see if they'll get you a gun at cost or even donate it since its for charity. They'll have a good idea of what they can get at the best price. If you have money left over you can buy other prizes for your raffle. Things like gift certificates, Binoculars, hunting apparel, etc.

Need to know where you are at what is hunted heavily.

Definately get with the local gunshop for help. I would think you would want them to handle the transfer of the firearm, as well.

"Benelli" seems to be a "name" that catches people's ears these days. Maybe a Browning Gold, too.
Either an Auto shotgun or Overunder would get the interest up, I think.

At that price you could offer two pump guns in the raffle for better chances or one nice semi-auto for that price. I would stay with a major brand and stay away from the cheaper versions you see at Wal-Mart. That way you would be offering something a bit more interesting.

If you offer two guns...then make one a "wood & blue" model and the other a camouflaged type. These are just thoughts that may or may not fit what you are doing. Good luck on whatever you choose.

The Turkey Federation guys were raffling off a Benelli SBE2 in full camo the other week in Bass Pro. The local volunterr fire depts raffled off a G3 1100 and a Mossberg whatever 3-1/2" semi-auto. They all seemed to have no trouble selling tickets.
When we did it when I was in the Jaycees, way back in the last century, we decided on an upscale gun that most people likely wouldn't go out and buy for themselves, and the strategy worked, but it might work with any gun, who knows. Good luck.

I'm in Sherman, Texas, just north of Dallas. In this area, it's mostly duck, dove, and turkey. Some folks deer hunt with shotguns. Thanks for the advice so far. I plan on talking to a couple local gun shops.

I think an 1100 would be your best bet. You could get a very nice one for under $800 out the door.

In heavy hunting territory, the local gun shop should be able to guide you as to what guns most people want. Raffle off one of those. If you have money left over, you might even have a 2nd prize like an NEF single shot.

Or not. you could always get a few "cheaper" Mossbergs. and raffle of maybe 5 or six of those. or go with a Benneli.

Beretta 391 would be my suggestion. It's a great gun that is useful for many types of hunting, plus the Beretta name will get people's attention. I think it will probably be over your budget by a bit, but you can probably get one of the local shops to sell it to you for wholesale to get his name on the raffle and that should get it back in your budget. It would be cheap advertising for him. Also, it would get a customer in his store when they pick up the shotgun so it's a win win.

The 391 might not be over if you can get a dealer to provide one wholesale in return for perhaps a donation receipt and a little advertising. If each ticket said something like "Gun provided by friendly gun shop" then it's an advertising/promotional cost.

Next choice would be a a Beretta 3901. American made, excellent design and a solid gun.

Another idea would be a Remington 1100 Sporting in 28 gauge.

Pic a pretty one with nice wood and blued steel.
