I put my son and range partner on a plane to Iraq today to serve with the 3rd ID. As a Dad I'm of course concerned with his safety; as a shooter my range days won't be the same until he gets back; and as an American I'm proud he chose to serve. (He also asked me to keep his guns cleaned and oiled.)

Whether you support the war is you choice; however, our troops deserve your support to finish the fight and come home safe. Hooah!

I thank him for his service and wish him well during his tour.

This August I will be leaving for Fort Leonard Wood for basic and MP school. I don't know if I can wait that long.

Hooah!

Congratulations, on a tough job. Raising a honorable young man in todays world. Send him my best and that we are all roud of the job he and the others are doing over there, best regards.

Thank him for his service, if he needs anything let us know. Also congrats on raising a great American. There are fewer and fewer good dads out there and it sounds like your one of them and he is on the road to become another.

BTW what is his MOS? If your ok with sharing that.

My son in law just got back safe and sound from his third trip to the big sand box....our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

I'd love to send care packages if you don't mind. The soldier I normally sent them to (friend's brother) just rotated out and I like to send the occasional box of junk that every soldier doesn't need but loves to get (candy, magazines). I've tried the random gift boxes, but the organizations I've tried don't seem too reliable. Most importantly, I'd love it to benefit a fellow THR member's family and friends and fellow shooter. I understand if you don't feel comfortable, but if so PM me and I'd love to help with the occasional box of goodies.

Thanks him for their service. Wished I was young enough to go help but alas I'm an old fart now so all I can do is support our troops. My prayers go with him.

God bless your son and may he have a hand of protection around him. Every Veteran....Every Time, Thank you.

US Army (time well served)

Best wishes to you and yours. Prayers will be sent for a safe return. Please let him know that people he's never met care about him and his fellow troops.

Even "doggies" rate a "Semper Fi" on occasion -- here's one to you and your boy!

My son's platoon departed (third time) for the Sand Box last friday. It tore him up that he couldn't go along. He's medically retired now; a Corporal forever. They do come home. Yours will too.

Cobrian45, thank you for your very kind offer, PM sent.

Any soldier loves getting care packages and I'll be making weekly trips to the post office soon myself... Dave

Thank you and Thank him!

Our prayers extend to the THR family - may God keep them safe!

Wonder, would it be possible for THR to some how offer a secure thread to allow those of us that wish to do so, to send an occasional box of goodies? I have found that the random stuff does not work well - the Marine we had sent care packages to has returned home - safely! We know what to send and how best to send it - what we no longer know is an address.

We can, and have, sent money to the USO for them to send packages but you lose some of the "personal touch" with that. Never-the-less, for those who can't do anything else, sending a contribution to the USO is money well spent.

By the way, you can use US Post Office, Priority Mail boxes and send for a flat rate everything you can stuff in the box. You can put a lot of microwave popcorn, cookies, candy and crackers in one of those boxes!

Just a thought. I know that is not the purpose of this site but it just seems like a good idea.

Here's wishing him a nice, uneventful trip and a safe return home.

I was 3rd ID myself for a little while after the 24th was redesignated.

ROCK OF THE MARNE!

Thank you and thank your son. I will pray for his safety and well being.
My son deployed for a year (Army) and returned last Sept. Was great to see him get off that plane.
