Just started Reloading. This was my first 50 rounds. Here are the specs.

Bullets: 150gr Sierra HPBT Match King
Brass: Lapua Match .308
Primer: Winchester Large Rifle
Powder: Varget 43-45gr
Rifle: Remington 700 Tactical .308W in AICS Stock
Distance 100yrd

Link to my Range Report Pictures
I shot 3 groups with each load. Each 3 shots, with the last a 4 shot group.

I started with 43, then 43.5,44,44.5, and finally 45 grains.

Looks like my first shots with 43 grain were the best. After the 2nd group of 44gr i cleaned, and the last group was MUCH tighter. I cleaned a few more times during my 50 shots to help break the barrel in and eliminate false groups.

Before today the rifle only had about 20 rounds through it.

The box of primers. The top row is the 43grain load the bottom is the 45. and you get the drift.

Tell me what you think, which looks the best, any comments or suggestions. All ideas and thoughts welcome as long as they are constructive :)

Pretty good for just starting out in reloading. The rifle and and some of the loads are already showing very good accuracy. The .308 was also my first bottleneck rifle cartridge I ever loaded. My rifle was a 700 VS.

I am very fond of the Remington 700 rifle and I own several. A well set up Model 700 should be capable of shooting under one inch 3 shot groups. My Remington 30-06 will shoot 1/2'' 3 shoot groups on a regular basis. It will even do better with Sierra 168 gr BT Match bullets. Can't use them for hunting however.

Expand your horizons

Here is good general advice concerning the 308
IMR 4895 and 4064 work best with WLR primers/8208 likes BR2
Varget needs the BR2 primer for best performance...the Fed 210M a close second.
RL15 needs the Fed 210M

Primers make a big difference....

Next....get a Redding Type S Neck Die remove expander ball, just use decapping pin retainer. Install the .336 bushing for your Lapua Brass.
This will extend your case life extensively. Then, you need a 308 Body die to bump the shoulder when they get tough to chamber.

Then conside a better bullet for accruacy potential.
Now, for paper punching under 600 yds look at 168gr OTM either the Nosler or Sierra. for out 1K the 175gr. You may consider the Hornady 178gr OTM, too. Constantly check Nosler Web site and their pro shot for good deals on bullets. The Pro Shop has seconds from time to time. Snag them!

If you want to get fancier....then get a Hornady COAL gage and modfied case and get some of the VLD type bullets from Berger or Hornady and have fun....But if you are going to do that get a Micrometer Bullet seater......Forster works just fine vs the Redding....
