Hey all,

I'm moving to St. Louis in July for my new job and in my relatively limited internet searches I can't seem to find a decent range. I'm looking for something with longer rifle ranges (maybe up to 500 but 250 minimum) with pistol bays as well. Ideally somewhere I can "rapid fire" i.e. more than one shot per second as well as draw from a holster. Doesn't matter if it's public or private, I'm going to be in St. Louis for a while so I don't mind getting a membership.

As far as distance, if I could stay within an hour or so of the major downtown area of St. Louis that would be fantastic. Thanks MO guys!

There is the Belleville Indoor Shooting Range in Belleville, Illinois not far across the river. It's a nice range, it's a 25 yard pistol range. I've been pleased the few times I've been in there, they have a knowledgeable staff and a nice selection of new guns.

I'd say it's about 30 minutes away from downtown STL. As far as STL itself, it's a great city. There is lots of history there and it's a great baseball town. It's a good time especially in summer. I like it alot!

If you don't mind driving to Wright City MO, the Benchrest Rifle Club is one of the best around. It's private but I'd be willing to take you on a tour. Rifles out to 600 yards, pistol range, shotgun range, multipurpose range etc. Check out www.shootingstl.com

Wow that BRC looks like a really nice place. I'd love to have a range to shoot out to 600 yards. Unfortunately, I cant justify range fees on top of a 4 hour each way drive for the couple times a year I'd actually make it there.

That's actually about as far as I'm currently driving (to my nice outdoor range, anyway, I've got a crappy indoor one about 25min away), so I'd be down for that if you're willing? What are the fees like per month/year? I noticed they require two seconds per shot. If I wanted to shoot strings (like two to center mass to practice for IDPA or whatever) is that kind of thing okay? Maybe on the range where drawing from the holster is acceptable? Come July I'll drop you a PM for that tour ;)

Check out 67 gun club. It is near farmington Mo. About 1 hour south of downtown st. Louis. 300 yard rifle range,200 yard high power range, and 50 yard pistol range. Annual dues are very reasonable. If you have any specific questions pm me.

Club dues are $250/year. There may also be an initiation fees as all members are "vested". That means if the club disbands assets will be sold and distributed amount the members. Drawing from holster is allowed along with rapid fire at the part of the pistol range with no overhead cover and the closer berms.

We have IDPA and USPSA matches every month and 3 gun matches several times a year.

Operation hours are basically sunrise to sunset seven days a week. Ability to shoot over 200 yds it must be demonstrated that you know your ballistics and how to adjust your sights/scope.

Let me know when you're ready to go. I'm retired, so anytime is good for me.

A little historical trivia--The Bench Rifle Club started out as the Glendale Club, located in what is now a very developed area. One of the founders was Col. Townsend Whelen, often called the Dean of American Riflemen.

The BRC was located in St. Louis county when I joined, but the encroachment of suburbia forced a move to the current location.

The club is extremely well run, with safety at the top of the priority list, as it should be

Old thread I know, but I'd like some information too, please.

I'm in St Peters, MO. I'm not totally digging the indoor shooting scene. I'd really like to find someplace outdoors. I'm checking into rates at the Bench Rest Club to see if I can swing it financially (looks nice!). If I can't I'll need a Plan B.

What are the MO conservation ranges like? It looks like Busch will be closed for renovation for the next two years. I believe Henges and Logan would be the next closest to me.

You've got a couple of options, if you don't mind about a 45 minute drive. Reifsnider is southeast of Warrenton. Just a couple of places to shoot into a hillside. Pistol range and a couple of benches with a 100 yard range. Nothing very fancy at all, and if it's been raining you may not even be able to make it to the range. There is another north of Troy at the William R. Logan conservation area. Nicer area that was redone a couple of years ago. I've been to both and never had an issue, but I always went during the week. I have a target stand made out of pvc pipe that I use, but at Reifsnider I was told that it was against the rules. Kinda funny, if you've ever been there, that much of anything could be against the rules. There used to be one off of 370 just past the river at St Charles. It's abandoned now, but everything is still there and it looks like people go in there from time to time. I always wanted to try it, but I'm to old to be running from the law these days. I still have friends down at Jeff City and still belong to the Sportsman's Club down there. I'll drive down several times a year and just make a day of it.

Great for target shooting, but useless for practice for self defense due to a three seconds between shots rule.

Go to Busch Wildlife near the intersection of highway 40 and 94 in south St. Charles county. I moved away from there (St. Peters) about 12 years ago. It was 75 cents/hr to shoot at that time.
I was a member of the Benchrest club when it was by the river is St. Louis county. Benchrest got moved because of sprawl, but when they moved, the fees were about a million dollars per year to join so I did not stay with them.
Good Luck

From their website:
...the existing shooting range will temporarily close for public use in January 2015 and remain closed approximately 24-30 months.

I went to the USPSA website to see if I could locate any IPSC clubs in the area but their site is a POS as far as locating clubs and ranges is concerned. Then I went to the IDPA site and their site is a little better. I knew from years ago there was a club around Arnold Mo and found it on the IDPA site.

Also found a benchrest club in Wright City.

I miss being a kid in a small Kansas town. The local PD would give me and dad keys to the 'shooting range' (a dirt mound next the landfill by the river) and let us shoot pop cans on Sunday afternoons. That's really all I want to do.

I'm member at ARPC, it's little closer than bench rest club. Private, but if you shoot IDPA with us they will get you sponsored. Club is ver nice, combat pistol bays, clay sports, cowboy range, etc. However, only 100 yard rifle range..

They hold monthly steel, idpa, uspsa, clay, etc matches

Not sure about all programs and match directors. But for IDPA it goes like this. $8 fee, if you help setup its -$4, if you safety officer its -$4. Doesn't count as work time.

I don't do work and take pay option(extra $125) club needs money too. AFAIK less than 1/2 of members put work hours.

Busch will be closed after 12/29/14 for at least several years.,the entire facility is being enlarged and remodeled.

I just 'stumbled' across it this afternoon on my way to Cabela's. I wanted to poke around but there were No Trespassing signs posted. I wish I knew who owned that land.

Yesterday was a crappy day but we drove out to Wright City. BRC and MO Gun & Quail were gated and the creek to Reifsnider was flowing more than I wanted to take our Rouge across. I may gear up next weekend and make a make-it-or-break-it trip out to Logan.

In the meantime, has anyone here shot at the Winchester Shooting Facility in East Alton

The Winchester shotgun range is excellent. It offers $3 rentals with a huge selection of shotguns and rounds of trap, skeet, five-stand, or wrabbit for $12, which includes a box of AA shells. You do have to shoot ammunition purchased from the facility. Winchester provides a scorekeeper, some of whom will provide coaching if necessary. Great place for new shooters especially.

The Winchester handgun range is good, too, although I've only shot there once, as opposed to the 50+ times that I've shot at the shotgun range.

Logan looks great after the MDC created new backstops, built new benches, and added new targets. The only drawback is that pistols are limited to one 7-yard target, whereas the other targets are placed at 25 yards. It can get busy on Saturday afternoons, so I'd advise finding another time to go. If you reload, you can sometimes hit the jackpot on scrounged brass.

Reifsnider is southeast of Warrenton.

Reifsnider gives me the creeps. The range is basically a pit, and the pit is completely isolated (and I do mean isolated). I've not felt comfortable shooting out there, honestly.

I can't believe Busch is shutting down for that long. It's about ten minutes from my house. :banghead:
