RCBS Quality?

Question: I have RCBS dies that are a few years old. Looked but didn't see anything to indicate the country of manufacture. I'm assuming that means USA?

I have called RCBS and emailed the response I got was RCBS sources from Asia and other places , they would not give me a solid answer to where their stuff is now coming from so that is why I now look at the back of their boxes, the dies do not say but the boxes do , and some of the new boxes just say China , at least this is what I have noticed. I do have RCBS stuff that works well but if they are to become an importer I will look at other brands

this is from their website kind of just say they are a global company and source from all over , made in USA is not said so I really do not know and they do not clearly state

My newer RCBS dies are just as good as my old ones. Stuff is made all over the world these days. China can make top quality stuff as well as the junk they make for folks who want the cheapest thing they can find. The make goods to a price point, and how well the parent company here keeps an eye on quality also matters.

The following contribution is insignificant but positive. About a year ago I bought RCBS #11101 (standard 223 Rem FL die set). Works well, not junk at all.

While I do like the newer Hornady dies there is nothing at all wrong with RCBS dies and RCBS stands behind everything they make.

I'm not sure which forum he is reading but you might want to send him here to get a different opinion on RCBS.

I bought a 505 scale 10 years ago. Made in Mexico and still going strong. I've bought a lot of their dies and molds, over the past 10 years, and don't have a clue where they were manufactured but they've been great. I have no experience with any of their stuff prior to 2009 but wouldn't expect it to be better than what I've bought recently.

I know I grew up being told that made in America meant quality. Nowadays that is not always the case. It usually does mean it costs more. We use to be the manufacturing hub of the world, no longer. Quality and poor workmanship now comes from many places. Japan, Korea and yes, even China make quality products. I have never had quality of workmanship issues with RCBS and they have readily replaced parts that wore from use over the years and also that were user inflected.

I have a Rock Chucker Supreme kit and it's a great press. I have LEE dies and they serve the purpose . Not saying there is anything wrong with Hornady but, I've heard a lot of complaints about their progressive. If I was going to drop that kind of coin I would go Dillon which one day I might but, for now my RCBS stuff is doing the job just fine.

If you're going to take this "Made in America" theme to the extreme, then you should also check to see where all the parts on your car/truck are made. That would mean walking, if you're not going to buy Chinese made parts, but I defy you to find a brand of shoes that isn't made in China... There are still a few, but not many.

You seem to have a vendetta against RCBS because they've started having some of their tools made in China, to their specifications, including the materials they're made from, etc. It's part of the modern world, and the current business model throughout our industrial system. Heck, Winchester rifles are made in Japan and Belgium! You might as well get used to it, as it's not going to change anytime soon......

It's not that I'm condoning off shore manufacturing, but we've brought it upon ourselves, unfortunately, and it's the way it is.
