I've found all the parts for the Lyman press you fine gentleman helped me with so much but now I have a stoopid question.

Exactly what press do I have here?

I was having trouble figuring out the bolt on top to lock the turret head in and every manual I could find said T-Mag II and didn't really look like mine. As you can see mine is orange. T-Mag II seems to be black? I searched for T-mag and everything kept coming back T-mag II

(I forgot if you do need the washer under the bushings before you put the bolt on the turret shaft but if so I am having trouble making it fit)

Maybe the collective knowledge of the forum can help with this?

Captain Quack.

And of course 15 minutes later I find a picture. T-Mag 1. I should have used the word "vintage" in my search. Now I just have to figure out the bolt issue.

Lyman had a long succession of those turret presses over the years. The orange-bodied ones all seem to be cast iron/steel, while the dark gray ones seem to be aluminum.

Yours is the first press I've seen with that strange turret holding system. I've seen versions made before and after yours, and (as I remember) they all used a large hex nut. I'd start with a call to Lyman CS. HERE.

Hope this helps.

More information is always good rfwobbly. I finally found several pictures (google: "lyman t-mag 1 pictures". If you just say t-mag or t-mag 1 without the word pictures you just get links to t-mag II) and none of them seemed to have the same mount rings either. I kept putting the washer down and then tried the bushings but they just wouldn't go. Take the washer off and bushings are good. Last time I tried it with the washer everything from the washer up just slid into place. I have no idea what I was doing wrong. Now I just have to mount the primer feeder and I'm good to go.

Quackery !! :D

The primer arm is pinched in the press at the right height to have the arm slip under the shell holder. Not too difficult to do. More difficult will be seating enough primers to get the "feel" but that comes with time. Just remember it's not a race ! Go for quality and not quantity.

All the best !

I'm just glad I have about 400 primers still in box and all the cases for '06 and .303 are already primed from before I topped reloading 5 years ago. I like to just sit there and watch TV and hand prime cases. Except for about 50 9mm all our cases are primed and ready to go to the press.
