Rear sight for a Marlin 1984 Lever Gun?

Something is wrong there, the sight should not be near the hammer.

The Wms web page specifically states the 1894 requires a hammer extension, even though the 336 and 1894 take the same sight. Again, the shorter reciever places the sight very close to the hammer. You can do away with the spur, but if you have a meaty thumb, it can be tough to get your thumb in there if you need to.

I still can't imagine how a Williams receiver sight could hang off the back and get in the way of the hammer.

There are only two holes for mounting one on the reciever.
One screw is under the sights vertical slider, and one is in front of it.

Unless, you have the wrong model Williams sight for a Marlin 336/1894?
Or you have only the front screw in the sight base holding it on the rear hole in the receiver.

Sorry for the poor picture, but I wanted to get this in quick. The sight is attached with two pre-drilled screws on the top of the reciever. As far as I can find, it's the only 1894-compatible sight currently listed in the Williams catalog. I think marlin changed where they put the pre-drilled holes some time in the not-to-distant past.

rcmodel, if you could tell me about what year your rifle was made, and what model sight that is, I would be grateful.

I haven't bought a new Marlin in awhile, so I'm confused. Are there no drilled and tapped holes on the left side of the receiver? If not, when (and for Pete's sake WHY) did Marlin eliminate them? I would definitely have gone with an XS or Skinner sight, or had my rifle d&t'd, if that is the case.

Nope, there are no holes on the side of mine (manufactured '06 or so). My best guess on why is cost. Gotta cut manufacturing cost make up for those waste-o-space safeties somehow.

I'm not happy with where the sight rests on mine right now, so I plan to have another hole d&t'ed to move it forward. I would be even happier if I could find a sight like rcmodel's (it's much more svelt than mine) and have a new hole made on the side instead of the top.

My 1894P was purchased new in Dec. 2000.

The Williams sight shown on my gun is Model FP-94/36TK (Target Knobs).
The regular one without the target knobs is FP-94/36.
