Hi all,

Can someone please suggest a good recoil pad (like a Sims Limbsaver, etc) that can fit a Remington 1100 12 ga. with a curved butt plate? Thanks!

Chris

Me, too.

I'm thinking Pachmayr Old English with a hard heel, but that would have to be sanded at least. I have an O/U that was done like that. I don't know if it was handwork or not.

Does anything come curved?

My 1100 doesn't recoil much, but I'd love to get another 1/4 to 1/2 inch LOP while reducing the recoil even more.:)

Chris,
What I've done in the past is simply saw off the stock in a straight line. Then you have no problem finding a recoil pad to fit. In my case, I usually need to remove the thickness of recoil pad plus about 1/4" to acieve the length of pull to fit me properly.

Good shooting and be safe.

If you don't want to square off the butt, I wish you luck finding a recoil pad. I don't know of any that are curved that will fit your stock except the factory pads.

The curve in my 1100 is pretty subtle.

A pad with a reasonably thick plastic baseplate could probably be carefully shaped to fit the curve.

Like I said, I have an O/U with a Pachmayr that was done that way. I need to look into which pad to get for the 1100.

ArmedBear,

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I have an older Kick-Eez Magnum pad that has an additional polymer spacer attached to it. (It made the LOP on my Citori 15.75" since I have long arms.) I'm simply going to take a sander and replicate the buttplate curve on the spacer. It'll fit perfectly when I'm done.

Since you mention you'd like to increase the LOP on your 1100, using the spacer in this way will alleviate modifying the actual recoil pad. You'll only be sanding the spacer.

I'll let you know how it comes out!

I was looking for a pad for my 1100. I found some thin ones at Midway. With a little heat they should mold/bend fairly easily, at least thats what I am going to try.

Boil the pad, then install it screwed to the butt when it cools it should fit the curve.

Sounds good.

Any special precautions to take when you do that, gezzer et al., to avoid destroying the rubber when you screw the thing on?

Does the rubber soften or get sticky with that heat, or just the baseplate (assuming it's thermoplastic)?
