Recoil Reduction

If you have a mid-length gas system then go with a H2 buffer and a Blue Sprinco Spring. The Red Sprinco spring might be to heavy to run cheap steel case so I'd stick with the Blue. Sprinco makes the best springs hands down and I know this because I used them all. Over the years I've been trying to find the perfect match of buffer, spring and muzzle device to not only give the best recoil reduction but also be able to reliably run cheap steel case ammo like Tula. Below are the best combos I've found on both Carbine and mid-length gas systems. Keep in mind, I'm also running a M16 BCG which will also help smooth things out.

Mid-length set up - H2 Buffer/Blue Sprinco Spring and BCM Mod-0 compensator.

Carbine set up - H2 buffer/Red Sprinco Spring and BCM mod-0 compensator.

You can choose whatever muzzle device you want but I can tell you that I've wasted money on countless comps and breaks. First off. Stay away from breaks. They just aren't worth it for the amount of concussion that gets redirected towards the shooter. Not to mention, they are horrible for flash reduction. Compensators are where it's at and the are a few that will not only reduce muzzle climb but they will also suppress some flash. Just not as well as the A2 birdcage that comes with your AR.

My favorite compensator was the Battle Comp. It kept the muzzle on target every time. Here's it's downside. It is louder than the A2 birdcage but it's not intolerable to the shooter like most of the breaks are. Where that Battle Comp failed in my book was the first time I took a carbine course with one. My line mates were taking such a bad beating from the Battle Comp, I had to switch out to a standard A2. So while the shooter can easily tolerate the increased sound with the Battle Comp, your line mates and the people to your sides will give you the evil eye.

My absolute favorite compensator of them all is hands down, no questions asked, the BCM Mod-0. It almost resembles a A2 but upon close inspection, you will see just how different they are. Like the Battle Comp, it keeps the muzzle on target and it reduces flash better than any other compensator I've used yet. The Battle Comp can't touch the BCM when it comes to flash suppression. The greatest reason as to why I like the BCM the most is because it doesn't kill your ears or the ears of those standing next to you. I don't know how BCM did this but it's barely louder than the A2. The best part of all. The BCM mod-0 is less than $100.

Sorry if I started rambling.

I recently participated in testing of a new style muzzle brake. The prototype was originally for the 50BMG, but has been scaled down to work with the smaller calibers, 223, 308 etc. The video details all the results. Just from my perspective, the noise level from the brake was much lower to the shooter. Recoil was dramatically reduced. I know, 223/5.56, not much recoil .. but by reducing recoil by nearly 60% the muzzle control was greatly enhanced. The video includes tests for AR15/10, plus some other baseline tests and some short footage from the 50BMG test.

Enjoy..

I`d go the shortest barrel possible route. Back on target quickly! That thing is not a cannon so just man up some and have at it.

Funny, I've never thought about how to reduce recoil of a pipsqueak cartridge that has essentially no recoil to begin with. The only rifle I've even thought about the possibility of a brake for starts with 4 and ends with Magnum.
