I am looking for a recommendation for a reliable, high velocity .45 ACP 230 gr FMJ round for use in a Government size 1911. Something hotter than the Winchester white box plinking ammo. Thank you, Bill

RELOAD! Make it as you like it. Anything from mellow to fire breathing. You may not want to bother...some of us like it though.

Mark.

Foreign ammo tends to run hotter. Someone I knew claimed Federal American Eagle was hot and it claims 850fps I believe on the box. But this guy was used to shooting range reloads at about 750fps. Would there be that much difference in recoil at 100fps difference? Both were standard 230gr FMJ loads out of a full sized Kimber.

Blazer Brass has worked well in .40sw and .45acp. I have liked Magtech the best in .38 spl and .357 mag for range ammo.

I have shot nearly all the 1k Blazer Al in 45acp, with not a single problem. I would be happy to buy it, if the price was right.

Blazer Al 9mm however, I am done with. Seems more under powered that WWB and every once in a while the extractor will pull the case head off. Its happened a couple of times with two different guns, over a few thousand rounds.

I use Blazer Brass, but to me it seems WWB is slightly hotter than BB. Maybe I'm wrong .

I will say that every Fiocchi load I've ever shot has been a hot one. :)

Blaser Brass

Blazer Brass from Wal Mart, my opinion, the best value unless you reload. I like them because I can get some good brass to reload and the price is cheap, for quality ammo.

Thanks for all the input...

looks like Fiocchi is the favorite. I'll try to get some and try it.

What a great forum, Bill

Their is a school of thought that says a semi-wadcutter design is the best non-hollowpoint design.

Pardon mah french...

I shoot alot of Blazer Brass in .40sw and .45acp and have had no problems. Also like Magtech if I can get a good deal. Never shot Fiocchi, but sounds like a need to give it a try.
