Recommendations for a bolt-action .22

I'm thinking of getting a target/plinker in .22lr. I'd like to have something that is capable of very good accuracy, and most likely bolt-action. A single shot would be fine (possibly ideal), although a small magazine would also work.

Whatever it is either has to come with decent sights, preferably a peep-sight rear and post front. The ability to attach and remove a scope would be a bonus, but not completely necessary.

I'm not too interested in one of the tricked out target rifles, since this could see occasional field use. Also, it must have a halfway decent looking wood stock.

Any ideas for what might fill the hole in my safe?

Sounds like one of the 500 series Remingtons would be just what you need. Some are magazine fed, others are tube feed.
The 512-P has peep sights. Remington also made a 300 series tube feed with peep sights they called the NRA rifle I don't recall the exact model number, but maybe someone here knows.
You can generally find one of them for under $175. Every one I've shot has been extremely accurate and very reliable.

I've heard great things about the CZ line of rimfire and centerfire rifles. I think this would be my choice if I needed to replace my old Winchester Model 69. Maybe someone who actually owns one will chime in.

A CZ Lux or American would be pretty nice.

I received a Kimber .22 as a wedding gift from my wife. It came with a test target: 5 shots @ 50 yards = .333"

My CZ 452 varmint is every bit as accurate as my Anschutz or Sako, but a good bit cheaper in price. I'd defiantely reccommend a CZ.

If your not against purchasing a used rifle, I'd recommend one of the old Winchester Model(s) 52, 69, or 75. They were all good shooters. The Model 52 is my personal favorite, IMO the finest .22 rifle ever made.
For around $100 to $150 you should be able to find some very good condition Mossbergs that meet your criteria as well.

I'll second the Kimber vote for bolt actions.

My Ruger 10/22 gets more range time though simply because it is accurate and I'm not as concerned about wear with it.

Smoke- Unless they invented a way to double your lifespan, I doubt you're gonna wear out your Kimber!

Definitely the CZ-452. I have shot one hole groups with mine at 50 yards. I doubt that I could shoot any 22 any better.

I vote for the CZ-452 also. They come in several variations, Lux, American, Varmint, and something called Special or sometimes Standard.

I have a CZ-452 Lux Standard and it is both very accurate and very pretty. I got mine for $196.00 OTD.

I think you might like the CZ-452 American the best based on your wants. They cost about $300-350 and are worth every penny and then some. All machined steel and Walnut. 5 shot mag. The only plastic is on the butt pad and the base of the mag and the only stamped/sheet steel is on the trigger gaurd.

If this was made in the U.S.A. it would cost twice as much. Cheap labor in E. Europe.

never heard a bad thing about the CZ 22's, heard from lots of folks though how absolutely sweet they are.
