reduced pressure 30-06 loadings

This topic may have been brought up before but I am wondering if anyone has experience with reduced velocity/pressure loads for the 30-06. I'm actually hoping to reduce both sound volume and recoil.

I've downloaded 30-06 with both H4895 and Trail Boss...2400-2500 fps with H4895 and probably 1400 fps with a "full load" of Trail Boss. Mild recoil with the H4895 and hardly any recoil with the Trail Boss, almost like shooting 22lr.

Well, I don't load for reduced recoil and velocity specifically, but I do load a bit on the low side for my Garand and Rem 740. The Garand's op rod can be damaged by hot loads, and the 740 has a tendency for the bolt lugs to dig into the soft receiver metal, a tendency that can be reduced by a softer load. I load 47.5 grains for the Garand and 48.5 grains for the 740, IMR 4895 behind a 150 gr bullet.
A side effect of the softer load is a pleasantly manageable recoil, especially helpful for follow up shots with a semi auto.

In the Modern Reloading handbook by Richard Lee he lists many cast lead loads for the 30/06. That may be of interest to you.

www.hodgden.com has a drop down menu bar under DATA that has youth loads listed, including some for the '06 using lighter weight bullets. I'm not sure if that fits your criteria, but H4895 is so versatile, usable loads can be interpolated with some common sense.

Have not loaded any this soft but have seen range reports of great accuracy even a 1700 fps.

As NCsmitty and rcmodel have suggested, you should try the reduced loads provided by Hodgdon especially since they are tested under lab conditions. They supply a lot of data using H4895 and they give us a formula for calibers they don't list.

I hare tried the H4895 reduced loads for the 30-30, 308 and the 30-06 and all worked very well and were accurate. I have heard of many others being used and they were reported to be just as accurate. (especially in the 243, 270 and 7mm-08)

I personally tried the 125gr and 135gr loads on the list and they were extremely accurate and they were soft shooting. A friend's 12 year old son used the 135gr 30-06 light load to take a Doe just over 100lb this year from 80 yards out and the Deer couldn't tell it was a light load. I didn't see the shot but I believe the report, only 1 hole just above the front shoulder.

From what I'm told though, DO NOT use IMR4895, these loads are for H4895 only.

Im using 100 gr plated RN bullets, 18gr SR4759 and military 06 brass for my reduced load.

I ALSO just bought 500, 70gr, .311, .32 acp bullets and using the same load as above and have found it to be "Minute Of Coke can" with iron sights at 50 yds
