I'm just getting into reloading again and was curious about how inflated the prices are from this last year of shortages. From what I can tell it'd cost about $.14 per 9mm round, and $.18 per 45 acp round now. That's assuming I can continue to pickup used brass for free. Is that what it has been at this time a year ago? Or do I need to look harder for better sources?

Thanks,

Siber

Prices vary greatly depending on where you buy. If you constantly look for fair prices, you can find them but order quick or they will be gone.

I'm paying about $5 more for a pound of powder but the selection is limited.

I'm also paying anywhere between $5 and $10 extra for 1k of primers.

.223 Brass is still kinda high, but other calibers are becoming more reasonable.

Another way around some of the high prices is to buy in quanity or find a group buy.

The last box of 100 JHPs I bought for my .41 Mag cost $26. That is obscene. So I bought a lead furnace, molds, and buy lead for about a buck a pound, for a cost per bullet of around 3 cents. After saving 23 cents per bullet for around 300 bullets, I pay back my investment in the furnace and molds.

The last gun show in Knoxville, TN, primers were running $40/1000 and powder was $23-$26 per pound.

Higher volume purchasing provided more attractive pricing but still higher than 2012.

Local stores vary in price as much as $10 on primers, and $3-5 on powder. My go to shops were selling WST, W231 last year for $19.99 per pound, or $136/8lb last year. This year it's going for $20.99/1lb, and $145/8lb. Primers were going for $29/k last year, and $32.95/k SPP, SRP,LPP, and $39.99 for CCI#41 this year. We have a local indoor range/shop that sells fired brass. They are back down to last years prices now. Back in the spring .223/.556 brass was .10 each, .40 S&W, and 9mm was .08 each. They are back to .03 for .40s&w, and 9mm, and .05 each for .223/.556.

Last year, primers were ~$20/k for Tula/Wolf. Anywhere from ~$26-35/k for domestic, depending on where you bought them. (PV seemed to have Win and CCI in stock thru much of the year, for ~$26/k).

From PV, I bought my powders around 16-19$/lb in the 1 lb bottles.

Bullet prices can vary wildly. Depends on how patient you are, and how long you look. Even before the panic, Zero jacketed bullets were scarce as hen's teeth.
