I’m going to San Marcos, Texas in a couple of weeks for a conference. I need to pick up a jug of H335 and a few thousand primers while I’m there. Where is a place in Austin to pick up some reloading supplies? McBride’s isn’t in the running; too arrogant and too expensive.

TIA

You don't state what type of primers you need, but if they are something common you shouldn't have any trouble finding them at Cabelas in Buda.

You are going to San Marcos anyway...so its right on the way. They have H-335 on sale right now.

Cabelas will typically be $2-$3 less on reloading components than McBrides... but they might not have the same selection.

I've not gotten any attitude at McBrides and I've been trading there for over 40 years. But YMMV.

I’d forgotten about Cabelas. I lived in Austin through most of the seventies and very early eighties and have had good and bad experiences with McBride’s but more bad than good. I’ll just keep it at that so Art Eatman’s grandma doesn’t get upset.

Thanks for the memory jogger. ;)

To clarify a bit, I need an eight pound jug of H335 and 3000/5000 large pistol primers. After looking at Cabebla’s price list online, I can do a lot better at Powder Valley, even with the hazmat. Is there a mom and pop in Austin that’s reasonable these days? I expect the H335 to be around $140 and the primers $25.00 a thousand, mas o menos.

I’m OK with the $30 per box on the primers but it looks like Cabelas want $180 a jug for the powder. That’s nuts. Also, I don’t mind throwing a little dough toward a local shop vs. a big box, I just don’t know the Austin scene anymore.

try Trainer Hale Supply , Bexar TX, call ahead to see if they have what you want and get their price.. google for the phone number. I have found them reasonable in the past. they have limited hours as they are associated with a skeet range.

Bull

Not sure which direction you are headed into ATX, but if from the west on IH 10 you might want to try Gibsons in Kerrville. That is some old school mom and pop there. Might want to check prices there first if you think it is an option. A little high on some components, but they have a big selection.
