Good morning. I picked up a NIB sako 75 from a gentlemen near me, chambered in 260 rem. I have been reloading for quite sometime and have the experience needed. I have been reloading 308 win, 270 win, 7mm mag and 223 rem.

I shot the rifle yesterday after breaking in the barrel. The rifle shot pretty decent. I was shooting 120 Nosler BT on top of H4350 in lapua brass. As for suitable powders for this cartridge, I have alot of varget on hand, some H1000, and some H and IMR 4350. I have pretty much stuck with hodgdon powders for rifles since starting reloading.

Here is my question. Seeing as how all the load data found in shot in a 24" bbl, what powders in yalls experience should give good performance in my 22" bbl? I was thinking of trying Reloader 19, but the thought of it being double base somewhat scares me. And seeing as it is pretty slow, I was wondering how it would perform in my shorter barrel? What has been your favorite powder in the 260 rem? Any guidance on the reloader powders? Any reason I should be scared to shoot a double base powder? Thanks for the help.

crimsoncomet,

Having shot F Class alongside a few guys who use the .260 Rem, I can tell you that most of them used either H4350 or RL22 with the 139 - 142gr bullets. Hope that helps.

Don

The best powders for 120-140grain bullets in the .260rem are
Winchester: 760
Hodgdon: BenchMark, H4831, H4350, H1000
IMR: 4350, 4831
Vihtavuori: N160, N550, N560
Alliant: Reloader 17, Reloader 19
All these powders have a mid-slow burn rate so take your pick. Most of the powder makers have reloading data for the 260rem on there websites. Sako's are a great gun and you will probably find alot of different reloads shoot really well in them.

I get good results with RL 19 and 130 gr Accubonds.

And, with H4831SC with 139 gr Scenars and 140 gr Berger VLDs.

27" Lilja barrel. I would think you would get good results with the 24" as well.

Seating the Scenars and Bergers out farther helped the loads a lot.

I don't see it listed but my daughter's Rem Model 7 .260 loves IMR4320 with the 120gr bullets. Mike

I also use H1000 with 140gr bullets, veloictyis about 2700 (30" barrel) and accuracy is great.
