Remember to adjust your charges for extreme differences in temperatures. If you workup a load in summer, it'll be weaker in winter, and more seriously, the opposite is also true. If you work-up a winter load, it'll be hotter in the summer, maybe dangerously so.

Went to the range today and got my first experiences with temperature varied burn-rates.

It started out sunny and cold, about 40 degrees. The clouds came out, sun was gone, wind picked up, and the temps dropped like a rock, or at least seemed to because of the winds. I know my hands were freezing.

Anyway, while it was sunny, I fired off a bunch of loads for my Mosin using Varget. The change in temps didn't seem to affect it at all. Some loads for my SKS using H4198 seemed to be okay also.

When I went to do my handgun practice, I started to run into issues.
The XTP loads for my M&P40 using 7.6gr IMR 800X were a little off. The slide was cycling a bit slow. It is possible I might need to up the charge a bit more, as I was getting a lot of unburned powder, at one point I tipped the gun and it sprinkled out  I have fired the same charge before in warmer weather and it shot just fine. While I understood that the burn-rates can be affected, it seemed a stark contrast between warm and cold.
Some loads using Unique seemed to function okay, but they did seem to lack the same sharp punch they had before.

Consider this an invite to post your temperature change stories, and/or powders which seem to be affected the most.
