Does anyone know if after market stocks for a Remington 1100 or 11-87 will also fit the 11-48?

Also, if I were to get an extra 11-48 barrel and cut it down to 20" would that affect the reliability on the 11-48 since it is not gas operated?

You may check the auction sites (gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com...maybe-ebay-gasp) for a used stock.
I don't believe that the 1100 or newer stocks will fit (I know the forearms will NOT).

I don't think the short barrel will effect function. The 11-48 is essentially the Browning Auto-5 action, and there were plenty of short barrels on that action.

I want to say that the 11-48 was a Carbine Williams design, and thus used either a short-stroke piston or a floating chamber, but now I'm not sure. I mean, I coulda *sworn* he's credited for it in his Sandlapper bio.

Beagle, the old moonshiner had an hand in the floating chamber design used by Winchester in the Model 50 and 59.

The 11-48 was a streamlined 11.

HTH....
